you will not be making the NCAA tournament this year.

41-11 was the score at halftime. wow.

In other news, UNC holds off UVA

UNC is playing like an abortion. They barely beat Clemson with the help of a catastrophic tiger meltdown and some home-ref help, then only beat UVA by one? Overrated much?

I really wish Tyler Hansbrough would actually get called for travelling and offensive fouls. Storming into the paint with your head down, shaking around for a bit and jumping into a defender is retarded. I can't believe refs still call fouls on the defense when he does this.

They are playing without their game-changing point guard....

They had trouble with him. Numerous struggles against shitty teams, barely beat Clemson (with him), lose to MD at home, almost lose to GT.

Furthermore a team that is supposed to be as good as UNC should not barely beat UVA even without Lawson.

His return might hark their great awakening and they could be awesome, but right now I see them destined to an early departure from the NCAAs. Of course this is college basketball and everything can change quite quickly so I won't rule them completely out.

needs more Kentucky beatdown.

Their worst loss since 1989 guys. 11 points in a half is their fewest since the shot clock era started.

as a quick double post, Arkansas (1/2 game out of sec west) vs UT (top 10, leads sec overall standings) tonight. Should be a very good game. I'm torn as to whom I want to win:

If UT wins, and we can beat Arkansas on Saturday at home, we will have a 2 game lead in the Western division and can probably cruise to the division championship and an SEC birth. However, the SEC regular season title will be hard to come by.

If Arkansas wins, and we can beat Arkansas on Saturday at home, we will be tied for the overall standings and have only a game up on the hogs.

Naturally we just need to get to 10 wins in the conference, which SHOULD be enough for an ncaa berth. However, a division championship should look better on paper. Of course, we won the division last year, and they ended up taking the team in 3rd.

UK is 1-1 against Vandy a Top 15 team in this, Kentucky's worst year in decades.

I'm not sure the loss is even relevant much less post-worthy, and it certainly doesn't make up for all the MSU beatdowns over the years. ;)

In other news Kelvin Sampson hit with more recruiting violations (big surprise): http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3243793 . What a sleaze.

That piece of shit was talking on the phone to a recruit and even handed out a T-shirt and draw-string bag, what a douche!

Some of the ticky tack recruiting violations are fucking stupid, if he were handing out cash or buying their parents homes that's one thing, if he were giving them $200 shoes or tickets to NBA games then that's also no good, these are fine print violations that just give 100 bureaucrats in the NCAA infraction department a job.

we've been put on probation in football for "ticky-tack" shit like this, so I hope they come down hard on them.

and by the way, losing by 40 points and being down 30 at halftime is more than worth posting about. i saw on your scout board where people were complaining that Vandy was putting their starters back in up 40 points. pot meet kettle. oh how the mighty have fallen.

What part is pot and kettle, I'm not following, did I say something you're referring to?

If you're gonna be all Patriot-fanesque now that Miss St. has left laughing stock status in their sports programs I hope a freak bus accident restores your humility. :D

From wiki:

Sampson also played a role in the controversial recruitment of star player Eric Gordon, who signed with Indiana after reneging on an early verbal commitment to the University of Illinois. Sampson was criticized by fellow coaches for failing to communicate with Illinois coach Bruce Weber about the recruitment,[1] and some observers said that Sampson's recruitment of the verbally-committed Gordon was unethical.[2]

In addition to the Gordon incident, Sampson has been in the middle of a number of other controversies. Under Sampson's watch, Oklahoma was placed under a three-year investigation by the NCAA for recruiting violations. At the end of the their investigation, the NCAA issued a report citing more than 550 illegal calls made by Sampson and his staff to 17 different recruits. The NCAA barred Sampson from recruiting off campus and making phone calls for one year, ending May 24, 2007. [2]

Prior to the findings by the NCAA, Kelvin Sampson was the President of the NABC, an organization that supports basketball coaches across the country. During his tenure the Ethics Committee of the NABC was formed to address the many problems with violations that college basketball faced going into the 2003 season. That very same Ethics Committee would later reprimand Kelvin Sampson as a result of the NCAA findings, placing him on probation for three years during which he would be ineligible to serve in any official capacity for the NABC, be considered for Coach of the Year honors or receive Final Four ticket privileges. [3]

As coach at Indiana in October of 2007, Sampson has once again come under scrutiny for making impermissible phone calls. [4] Despite being restricted from making any outbound recruiting phone calls, Sampson participated in approximately 10 conference calls with recruits that violate the terms of the sanctions levied against him by the NCAA. IU assistant Rob Senderoff (who has since announced his resignation) also made some 35 impermissible phone calls to recruits from his home. It seems that while the initial report stated that about 35 impermissible phone calls were made, subsequent revelations by Indiana University indicates that the number could be over 100.[5] According to the Indianapolis Star, on February 8, 2008, the NCAA informed Indiana that Sampson had "knowingly violated telephone recruiting restrictions and then lied about it."[3]

He's been in trouble before making illegal phone calls. So doing it again and lying about it, yea, douchebag.

No I get it, he slings a mean phone, but these are nothing violations the NCAA enforces to give itself a job so that it doesn't have to spend the time and resources to more ardently attack allegations of schools actually paying kids and their families to attend, or directing them to boosters, agents, or marketing firms as a 3rd party way of doing the exact same thing.

He definetly broke NCAA violations both times, I'm just not convinced it demonizes him the way the media and I suppose you here are respresenting it.

i was talking more about what the scout board was posting than you shady, but hey while we're at it, we took 2 out of 3 in baseball last year, beat you in the sec tournament, then beat you in football and again in basketball this year. so, owned.

I turned to that channel and couldn't believe it. My high school made Vandy's 2nd string point guard (Keegan Bell, Bob Jones/Hazel Green HS) cry on the free throw line when we were beating them by 30.

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't take another 2-3 of these kinds of beaten down over the next 2 seasons, hopefully they keep Billy G around for a couple of years past that so HIS recruits and team philosophies can get a chance to play out.

haha, Kentucky basketball is so depressing. You're supposed to be disappointed with sweet sixteens . . its not fun, but its funny being in Lexington where half the people want to fire BillyClyde and the other half try to convince themselves that we will still make the tournament. I'm still glad Tubby is gone, because he never got maximum effort out of good players. Somehow Crawford is actually playing this year, its crazy to watch. . . oh what could have been if Morris didn't sign with the Knicks never to be heard from again.

Kentucky football on the other hand is so amazing, because I always expect us to somehow shit away every game, and when it doesn't happen I rush the field.

yeah Minnesota's playing terribly. What are they, 15-8? Yeah they haven't beaten anybody either but it's Tubby's first year. Considering they had 9 wins last year they've already vastly improved.

say what you want about him, but he'd have never lost some of the games UK has this year.

Sid6.7
February 14th, 2008, 04:10 PM
Tubby is a good coach, but you can't argue Kentucky is even close to where it was when Tubby took over, the Kentucky program changed from top10 every year, getting almost every recruit, and uk/uofl actually being a huge game. . . to a program that gets middle of the road recruits, usually finishes just inside the top 25, and uk/uofl barely gets picked on gameday. . .

say what you want about him, but he'd have never lost some of the games UK has this year.

I'm curious which games you think Billy G lost that Tubby would have won, or I guessed coached to victory since obviously the shit bare cupboard that Tubby left them is what Billy G is working with and neither of them actually play the games. Tubby's whole career has been about over-achieving with less, prety much the same think Billy G has done, he won their only Championship with the 6 NBA'ers that Pitino left him, and got upset by a lower seed every year they played in the tournament with any real talent.

Minnesota seems like a good fit for him to me, he's much better off with no expectations and weaker talent he can coach up to his comfort level, he never seemed capable of maximizing the NBA talent that went thru Kentucky.

Gardner-Webb
UAB or Houston (at least 1 of them)
San Diego

you figure that's 3 games at least, and that would at least put them on the bubble, even after losing to vandy the other night.

and tubby never had embarrassing losses by 40 points.

AGT-Shady
February 14th, 2008, 06:28 PM
Yeah I know who the weaker teams are that they lost to, but Tubby never had the kind of bare cupboards Billy inherited. So if you're gonna snipe about Billy losing bad games then fine, but you need to be specific about something he did as the coach that cost them in specific ways that Tubby would have done differently.

Otherwise all you're saying is that Billy G is losing more and worse with the least talented team Kentucky has since before Pitino, hardly a big shocker but directly responsible to what Tubby left him.

another thing that bothers me about Tubby. .. he NEVER had an assistant coach that other people were trying to hire.

and tubby never had embarrassing losses by 40 points.
