I know this hasn't got much to do with TFC, but this forum gets more attention than any other, and I really need some help right now, here it is:
I recently just built a computer, it has a 40 GB maxtor installed in it right now for the hard drive. i have the jumper on it set to CS and I have windows 98 second edition installed.. the problems come in when i try to install just about any game, the most prominent one is a blue screen error that says "disk write error" stating that files could not be written to my hard drive. people have said that it's bad sectors, well i did a surface scan and everything was fine, and the problems are still there. i tried an old hard drive 20 GB quantum, and the same problems arose. Before installing 98 SE on each of these i totally nuked the entire hard drive. I've used the 20 gig on an older computer and it worked fairly well (no disk write errors at least). The other hard drive is my friend's and he said he's never had a problem with it in his entire life. I would buy another hard drive... but could it be other hardware installed in my comp that is making this problem occur? (bad sectors or whatnot) If so it'd just be a waste of 100+ dollars. If you have any advice at all, please reply, thanks, i appreciate it
