Here's a few options. I told Bluefire that 5 of the 6 teams I asked hated the map. Spammage would be a better name but anyhow here goes.

I should clarify owned on this map as +100 points
March 18th, 2003, 12:37 AM
R1 we won by only 5 points. I didn't play r2 but we won by like 60 points are something.
This map is NOT 56k friendly. I'm glad I get my cable back tommorrow.

we played a team that employed a 9 heavy strat 2 hwguys 7 soldiers. We in turn attempted the strat. There was more spam at the center zone than hormel produces in a year.
March 18th, 2003, 12:40 AM
For some reason the idiots in my clan said they loved the map and we were definitely going to win. Unfortunately they neglected to listen to me and in doing so (not changing the map with TDA), we lost by 500 points. Embarrassing? Definitely. Lesson learned? Don't let the white man hold you down.

Almost as good as RUN or CZ2.

Yes, and we owned the team we played.

scrummage seems to be a "love it or hate it" map, and I think the closer matches (like the one BR had) are pretty rare...
scores were so lopsided r1 we didn't play a r2, but that wasn't really due to our skill (the other clan played short), so I'm really not sure if I like the map or not yet :o

scrummage is one the most unique maps ever and coincedentally is one of my favorites. dont remember any maps before warpath that has a similiar style of play. why it doesnt make it into league rotations more often surprises me. the last time i played this was way back in tgl though i do recall that IGL played this maybe a year ago

The concept of the map is great, first of its kind. The strategy needed to overcome your enemy is great too. As for the design - anyone who has made any worthwhile project in Worldcraft can tell you it was built like shit. The map's sizing creates a demand on connection and system performance. Although i won, i can tell i was playing like crap visually. Only maps that come to mind when i think of this level of demand are Dustbwol and avanti, and neither are played in STA. Sucks knowing your opposing team can't put up a good fight cuz of their comp. ;[

Its great, because it involves more team effort than any other map. Also involved much more yelling by me to make my team work as a team for this one, but it paid off. I liked the map a lot, cause its a good change from the regular ctf maps. I just wish we had a HW to play on it :(

fun map to play, shame it's so ugly... I would think it would be significantly less fun if you're getting owned though
oh and the gayest thing is if you stand on the teleporter when you don't control the center, you overflow and drop from the server

that's true for most maps in general but it's a lot more apparent when you dont have a strat for control point type maps. a lot of people complain about canalzon cause of a lack of knowledge about the map and pin their dislike on spam at the spawns or at the fountain. scrummage is kind of the opposite being deceptively simple. i agree that the spam in the center arena can suck but it's not the be all and end all for the map.

I agree with Ace. Any map that isn't stupidly simple will get a lot of unwaranted dislike because one team is less prepared than the other.

Must you whine about everything Solo? Seriously, just like 2 weeks ago you were complaining about elevators, now it is the map selection. THE MAPS ARE VOTED ON BY THE CLANS, IF THE MAJORITY OF CLANS DID NOT WANT TO PLAY A MAP THEY WOULDN'T HAVE VOTED FOR IT. YOU CAN ALWAYS TRY AND CONVINCE THE OTHER TEAM TO PLAY A DIFFERANT MAP, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP THE WHINING ABOUT EVERY GOD DAMN THING!!!

I like the map, I just think it'd be better if someone redid it.
Same concept, better map. The layout is okay, if a bit HUGE, but the textures are ungodly awful.
And yes, this map runs worse on my computer than regiant, 2mesa3, or any other HUGE map.
Still love it. (But then again I like most maps, once I figure out what's going on, and where the hell I am..)

Twizted fuck off. I'm entitled to my opinion. After last nights match I approached a few teams because I figured I wasn't alone. Of the 6 teams I contacted looking to play a different map for next week 5 of them hated Scrummage. Hmm I say to myself. I wonder if this opinion is more widespread than this. So I go and post a poll. PHISH you too can fuck off. I posted this not to whine but because I was curious what others thought of the map. People are entitled to like maps other people hate. I like Run lots of people hate run. I understand that and accept that. I just wanted to see how people felt about the map.
Corsair ya it's really too bad you didn't play. After we were losing chasing you around with a crowbar would have been fun.

This was the first time I've played this map in a league, and I must say I loved it!! Granted we won... there were times in the match where we were getting spanked and I was still having a blast. I have never seen a map (not even Run) that requires that much teamwork and timing to be successful.
BTW, I would like to give a shoutout to Fx for giving us such an exciting game last night. They jumped up on us early by about 20-30 points... but we came back to dominate the last half of the round and won by about 60-70. Second round was topsy turvy to say the least. They were consistently up on us by about 20-30 the whole time. The last 5 minutes of the second round saw 3 scrums!!! The first one we got to pull us within about 4 points in the round. They got one VERY shortly after to jump back up. And they got another within about a minute to jump up by a considerable margin. The total score for the match was teetering on being tied, so the last couple of minutes was a battle for the middle, we took control and got their base a couple of times. We lost the second round by almost 60, but won the total score by 2 POINTS!!!! One of the most exciting matches I've been in personally!!!

This happens with every controll point map. The leagues play them sooooooooo rarely that when one does come along half the clans have no idea what to do on them. The whole team needs to work together instead of 4 or 5 guys.
The reason i like scrummage so much is because of the fact that you actually need a good strat to do well on it. Everyone on the team has to really know what their role is. We did not use an overly heavy strat on the map and we did well on it. I would think with 7 soldiers around a good spy would have a field day....
I think there is a lot of bottled up hostility cause the offense can't whine about anything other than spam. No turtling, no pot shotting, no chasing to whine about. No reason to live.

I think the map is awesome. The only problem with it is it can run like crap on low end computers. I think there should be more maps made like scrummage. Leagues need to play them more too, CTF gets pretty boring sometimes. Looking down the STA schedule I see a couple new maps to me, I hope they are made available for download so I can check them out.

Bingo. Not everything is going to be a cut-and-dry match with five defense, four offense, and a flag to capture. Why do people have to whine whenever they don't like a map that's unusual (darkness, scrummage)? Here's a tip: practice it some, then the fact it's different from openfire and 2fort won't mean you get violated when you play. It has worked well for all the clans I've been in.

How much you wanna bet in all those blow out matches there was one team that:
A. Had lots of prior match experience on the map
OR
B. Went out and got a scrimmage with someone cause they knew that's the only way to learn this map.

People did the exact same thing for run. It's a different map and it seems people don't have the mentality to learn how to play something other than go into the enemy base and take the flag back. Of course people are different and like different things. I know there are some CTF maps i despise that people love.

I just thought that it was humorous how Solo once got beat by a 2 Heavy Weapons Guy strat by RiCE, came here and make a huge deal about it, and basically whined until he got enough support for his diminishing ego.
And then so easily employs a 2 heavy weapons strat now.

If anyone out there could edit the map to make the middle point longer or possibly remove the walls surrounding the points, the map would be much more playable. Its not the type of map that rewards team work so much as a strategy that relies on spam. We played nLv on it, and won the first round by a few points. They won the second round by a few points, but they had the most overall so they won. I just don't like it because it doesn't reward skill or teamwork with points, but spam like theres never been before. nLv ran 2 hws and a demo at the mid point once they capped it, with the rest of the team dming whoever they found, which is a fine strat, but 6 mirvs once ya reach the middle is more or less insurmountable when you've got a teleporter bringing ya back with more the moment ya die.
Just make the map low-nades and it would rule all other maps.

Huh? Most of the people in your clan could bhop, and that's big on a map such as scrummage. In contrast, I'm the only one in nLv who can bhop consistently, and I didn't play a mintue in that match. Surely something overcame your advantage in the movement department. And from what I saw of rd1 HTLV, your team wasn't spam-free either (not as if there's anything wrong with that). Scrummage is just one of the maps that we (I should say the older nLv people, not me) as a clan are good at, *shrug*

BTW: We had someone working on another revision of scrummage. It was KEA Cencored. He was gonna work with Wedge, the author of the map from PCGS, and make it a little wider and such. Problem is, Cencored disappeared. I believe Lonewolf from nLv is interested in finding someone that is willing to work with Wedge and improve it. You can find him in #nlv
As for Scrummage, I have seen so many tactics and strats... and I have always had a great time on it. Win or lose. Its just something different from the norm. And the TEAMWORK is amazing.

I agree everyone is as guilty as possible of spam on it, its an entirely fine strat and it works, its just not fun to play against. The point of the post was to encourage someone to make a low grens version of the map, not to bad mouth nLv. It was an awsome match and the score was tight between the rounds.

it's fun in the same sense that murderball or dustbowl is fun.. any sort of strategy the map might have is invisible due to the randomness of spam and the brainless gameplay created by having the map tell you everything you ever need to know, rather than requiring proper team communication. The middle yard CPs are also pretty bleh for spam. Defending a point should not be only a matter of mashing your gren2 key.
-less(none?) gren2s
-Remove the CP voice warnings ("teammate needed at..")
