From Back In Iraq 2.0 : http://www.back-to-iraq.com/

But what I find most disturbing is the lack of concern among many Americans, who are shirking their responsibility to demand answers from the White House as to why this looks like it’s turning into a collassal cock-up. Does it bother the war’s supporters that the whole WMD thing is vanishing in a puff of propaganda? (Dept. Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz said in Vanity Fair that “for bureaucratic reasons, we settled on one issue, weapons of mass destruction, because it was the one reason everyone could agree on.”) The “biological laboratories” strike me as a flimsy reason for war, considering the CIA itself says it doesn’t expect to find the presence of any bioweapons agents. “We suspect that the Iraqis thoroughly decontaminated the vehicle to remove evidence of BW agent production,” the report says. That’s silly. If the Iraqis thought the trailers were going to be captured, why waste time and energy on decontamination? Blowing them up would have been just as effective. If they didn’t expect them to be captured, there should be some traces of “BW agents” — assuming they were used to actually produce biological agents.

But no matter: According to a poll by the Program on International Policy Attutudes, 41 percent of Americans either think the U.S. has found WMDs (34 percent) or are unsure (7 percent.) Sixty-eight percent of Americans still support the war, although only half were somewhat (29 percent) or very (21 percent) certain that “when the US government presented the evidence to justify going to war with Iraq, it was … not being misleading.” Five percent were unsure.

That means 45 percent of America thinks it was lied to, but President George Bush gets props from 74 percent of the country for his “strong leadership.”

A letter appeared in my college newspaper today, talking about the Clinton impeachment over his adventures with a fat intern and a cigar -- and yet not a whiff of impeachment talk in the mainstream media over lying about the reasons to go to war.

Leftists can blame the media oligarchy, rightists can immediately turn red in the face and scream at the thought of impeachment. Regardless, what cannot be lost in the face of this poll and the "Saddam is behind 9/11" poll is this :

Americans are really fucking stupid.

Welcome to getting closed again...

PS: I agree. "That means 45 percent of America thinks it was lied to, but President George Bush gets props from 74 percent of the country for his “strong leadership." really sums it up.

Yep, I remember posting to this thread a little while ago. That post has since been deleted.

Along with hmmm... let's see: The thread on first degree murder has disappeared. Oh, can't forget the one on disarming Iraqi citizens. Then there's the thread that challenged the logic of deleting Politiphilogin.

I've asked for an explanation no fewer than three times.

Just say you're going to delete my posts (among others) without permission and I'll go somewhere else.

Just a thought:

We haven't "found" Saddam, does that mean he doesn't (or didn't) exist?

I mean, come on, there was tons of evidence suggesting that Saddam did exist, but , it HAS to have been fabricated. I mean, there's no body, it all must be a lie.

Oh yeah, and we never landed on the moon either.

Unlike this reconstitued thread

I deleted my post along with anything after that to reset the thread.

Oh, I think everyone should have the right to delete or re-edit *their* own posts for any reason. But why did you also delete my post? What was so "bitchy" about it? A sardonic comment followed by agreement with Freeo followed by Bush lies followed by a quoted criticism of the NYT followed by a picture. What rules did it break?

I deleted the poli.. threads because I got tired of saying the same thing over and over and over.

Oh, you got tired of it so poof, it disappears. I'm tired of these tongetied threads but I'm not campaigning to have them removed. I'd hope that on a forum system that represents a wide variety of views, those view will be, at minimum, tolerated (unless they're filled with invective). Moreover, I'd hope administrators understood this best of all.

Kermit, now you're reduced to relaying the pathetic Donald Rumsfeld's arguments word-for-word. When we invade a country (violating international law and running up against overwhelming world opinion), we better have solid evidence. The intelligence community has said the evidence simply isn't there, and that this administration cherry-picked information conducive to a political agenda. Also, it's not difficult to move a 165 pound person around as it is to transport 500 tons of Sarin, or 25,000 liters of anthrax and so on. Finally, it speaks volumes that this administration would have to rely on a retro-spective justification for war. Kick ass now, ask questions later. Got it.

There was evidence of a WMD in Iraq, and the entire world knew about it. His name was Saddam Hussein.

Where exactly did you find that article on the site? I must be really tired or something. Thanks in advance.

Cain, I remember when Politiphiligon was first created you posted a comment saying how stupid a forum like that was (which really hurt cuz that forum was kinda my idea). Changed your mind since I see? :p <3 Cain, <3 This forum

Anyways, back to the topic - Clinton lied under oath vs. Bush admin lied to the UN (supposedly). Carry on!

One should question ever single poll out there. The results can be so easily influenced by the sample, they're pretty much pointless other than give the media and knuckleheads something to talk about. I honestly trust a FoxNew's poll about as much as a Bill Moyer's poll or something like that.

Acutally, EI, if someone didn't delete my post, I wrote something along the lines of "I do not entirely disagree with Lich [deleting the poli... forum]." My problem stems from the fact that he deleted it without warning.

Although I don't mind admitting that I misunderestimated your idea.

Oh, and stop with the "he lied under oath" garbage. Iran-Contra, anyone? But fine, lying under oath about blowjobs from a fat intern is bad. Remember that kids!

lol I refuse to get involved in the Clinton/Bush debate. I could care less about either one's so called lying. Touché on Iran-Contra.

Thanks for giving me props Cain. You know you'd be bored without this forum. I was thinking of you all along! Maybe as a way of making up for tk'ing you all those times back in Jell-0 right before you were about to cap.

BTW, my kids are gonna write letters like that one day. haha

American public.

More talk about blowjobs than people dying.

Through all the war talk, presidents e.t.c the only thing that sticks out in my mind is that Connie Chung WAS FINALLY FIRED. gg

What I find fascinating in the war's aftermath is that since it ostensibly 'ended' American's continue to die in sporadic fighting in Iraq with the merest of mentions in the press.

The initial fighting dominated news coverage. Every time we recovered a POW it was hailed as a feat of democratic power akin to the destruction of the Berlin Wall. In the weeks after, returning serviceman were greeted with literally days worth of media backslapping.

During the 'proper' part of the war 137 Americans lost their lives. Since that time, 42 (as of last weekend) have been killed. Now, I'm not going to say that these deaths have been 'covered up', but honestly, they have hardly been 'covered'. They get passing mention, and then no more is said about it.

Point is, we are not in control over there, and like the situation in Afghanistan (who the hell knows what's going on there right now), the mainstream coverage of what our foreign policy is accomplishing overseas is damned slim. And apparently, now that the war is 'won', we as a nation don't much care, because it's the boring 'political' part of our involvement.

Either way, it's a shame that our countrymen are dieing brave and purposeful "heroes" deaths and getting essentially ignored. After all, they're still dieing for our freedom and the right to be protected by the PATRIOT ACT.

It's still very dangerous in Afghanistan. The german Bundeswehr is in Kabul as part of a peacekeeping force and 4 soldiers got killed by a car bomb last saturday. There are some hints that the suicide bomber was a member of al-Qaida.

See, those of us here in the United States of Amnesia, we know nothing about what's happening in Afghansitan.

How much did the President budget for Afghanistan? Zero. Nothing. No dollars.

From my archive of downloaded articles, I have:

One from the LATIMES headlined "Afghanistan in disarray" (late December). Two from the Guardian, one noting that at least 3700 civilians died in our attack.

One from the NYT:

The most obvious example is Afghanistan, the land the Bush administration forgot. Most of the country is back under the control of fundamentalist warlords; unpaid soldiers and policemen are deserting in droves. (Remember that the Bush administration forgot to include any Afghan aid in its latest budget.)

President Hamid Karzai's brother, Ahmed Wali Karzai, told an Associated Press reporter: "It is like I am seeing the same movie twice and no one is trying to fix the problem. What was promised to Afghans with the collapse of the Taliban was a new life of hope and change. But what was delivered? Nothing. Everyone is back in business." Paul Krugman, "Conquest and Neglect", April 11, 2003

But what do I care? I just saw a squirrel water-ski on the morning news. A squirrel water-skiing!! Wow, that's amazing.

I think it would be more appropriate to just say that the general public, world wide, is fucking stupid. Europeans are no more cultured or intelligent than the general american public, asian or african societies. All of them do idiotic stupid things that make you wonder why they should be able to procreate or breathe air.

Just depends on the situation who looks worse at the moment.
