Have 3 computers behind Linksys BEFSR41 4-port router. The two that use half-life are:
1- AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz, 256 MB SDRAM
Windows XP
2- Intel Pentium III 600 Mhz, 256 MB SDRAM
Windows 98 SE
Both have Linksys NC100 Fast Ethernet Adapters.
Left for school last year with it working fine, but I come back for the summer and it's got problems. It is nearly impossible to play tfc on two of the computers simultaneously. It lags some even if just one is playing, but as soon as the other starts playing as well (same server or not, usually worse on same server though) the ping shoots over 1000 and sometimes cl_flushentitypacket errors occur. It will calm down occasionally for very short periods at a time, pings may return to normal or close, but doesn't last long. Bottom line is that it used to handle 2 computers playing tfc (same server or not) simultaneously, not it can't. I've updated the firmware. However, I have not forwarded any ports. The router is pretty much plug and play, and I have access to do what I want, just the performance is awful. ISP is AT&T Broadband, I'm located in Marietta, GA (30 mins NW of Atlanta) just in case anyone else out there is nearby and possibly experiencing the same thing. Another thing, there have been a few times that we have been able to play at the same time with no lag for several minutes, but happens very rarely. Thanks for your help.
