I have a duron 850 mhz, an ati radeon le ddr 32 mb, and 300+ mb ram sdr. im running winxp pro.

I used to get a constant 80 fps.

Nowadays:

I get 40-60 fps, and sometimes in open areas or spammy places, it drops down to under 20. It gets really hard to play at times. I run some stuff in the background, i.e. AIM, and apache, so that might be causing the drop in fps.

I have changed alot of stuff around, i.e. textures, and models, but for the most part, they are the same size/detail as the default ones. I dont know why there is such a huge drop in my FPS, but it gets annoying when im in the middle of a fight, and my FPS just drops. If anyone has any suggestions, leave them here please.

I also cant alt-tab out of Half-Life anymore...it just freezes my computer now..

I also do not have a fresh install of HL. I lost my cd a while back ago, and when i formatted, i just saved the HL directory and copied it back over, and then edited the registry to put in my cd-key.

If you want more information about my PC, ask them here, and i'll get you the info.

yeah, i replaced the nails back with the original ones...

one thing affecting my fps was what the sound quality. i had EAX hardware support and high quality sound enabled. it was really hurting my fps, and i've experienced a big improvement in fps since disabling EAX. im going to go out, buy another copy of HL, and reinstall it.
