Remember when there were other maps?

You know fellas, like not just Openfire_l ...

Why is there so little play of the older maps? or the maps that are just plain fun ... I think the other day for the first time ever an admin on Odin's changed the map out of the regular rotation to murderball. Granted it's not a "default" map, but we ended up with teams up 5 or so and it was some of the best play I've had in a while ...

Isn't anyone tired of Openfire? Does anyone wonder what happened to maps like crossover2? or badlands? or cz2?

I know Odin's and the Phat Farms are generally places where people play more 'goal' oriented and it's not the usualy pub, but speaking for myself, I kinda want to play against you guys on things besides SD2, and Openfire.

And Murderball ...I like murderball.

Observation:

These days, when murderball is on a server-- no one seems to know how to play it or they just don't care how it is played and make it a giant run-style mulch fest.

Not complaining, I've just noticed it.

yeah but if you ran it on Phat Pharm...You'd damn well better know how to play it or you'd learn real fast from playing guys that know how to play the game / the map.

I would love to see old maps like those played more but I think we need to have another 24/7 Murderball server (there was an old one, but I donno what happened to it).

Would any of you be interested in playing on MLF's pub if I made it Murderball or vote?

That server was the funnest server I ever played on. All the /tmp and Jell-() guys were so cool.

I miss playing all the older maps, I remember when i first started playing, alot of the pubs used to play different maps all the time. I wish there was a server running anything but valve maps. you could take well, 2fort, openfire and all the other played out maps and delete them from all servers and I dont think anyone would mind.

Wouldn't it be interesting to have a match on murderball? Each team has 5 people, 2 rounds. I think that would be a blast.

Or you could have 2 teams of 5 against 2 teams of 5 so it would end up being a 10v10 match.

I'll have to agree a bit on that ... while it's nice to have good league play in a pub, but things get old.

And I love watching people drop like flies on Odin's when a "league" map other than openfire or sd2 pops up. (Not all the time, but it happens ...)

As to the remark about Rock2, I loved that map when I was just starting out at tfc ... (few years now) ... I think it was the one default map that helped me improve on soldier ... <3 that massive yard (but the 9v9 DvD is also soo true)

Oh, and one last thing ... Santic_r is in the rotation on Odin's ;D It's fun. Big, but fun.

Bah, those maps aren't oldschool. They came out with the TF 1.5 patch...which was a long time before the real old maps. Here's some that were cool back in the day:

Most of these maps probably aren't played very much now because it's all to easy to stick a fatty in the obvious chokepoints that the maps have and get a shutout. They were still a lot of fun back before fatties become powerful.

Hmmm... There isn't really anything wrong with badlands except spamming the flag pit. The leagues would probably have to set up a special rule for no spy defense on that map (which is why it got taken out in the first place). The only problem I see is people can continously spam the flag...

So probably all that would be required is lengthen the time that the grenade bags respawn and possibly make people start with their spawn amount of grenades. badlands_r would probably be played in leagues ^_^

Rock2 sucks, u can hold down that map with 5vs5 let alone 9vs9. I was at teh Gibs n Ribs festival and our team ([Wh0di] w00t) was holding our own vs |{ and it was tied 0-0 with just 2 o and 3d. The map is easier for D than 2fort. But xover2 is a fun map, and murderball, mooncheese, and all of the other rarely played maps that are still a good time.
