AimBot - what exactly is it?

Excuse the n00bness of the question - but cheating in TFC, to me, is like doing drugs. I dont do it so i dont know much about it.

I know AimBot is a hack that helps (usually snipers) hit their targets. But when speccing someone, what does it look like?

Would it look as if they totally missed the person when they fired but the bullet still hits the target? Or, does it automattically put the 'dot' on the nearest enemy and then they fire?

I have always wanted to DL an AimBot just to know what it looks like and what to look out for when admining server. The only reason I havent is because I dont want someone to grab a log or demo of me using it sometime and then 5 months down the road when I play sniper in a match someone brings up that log or demo and says "HE CHEATS HE CHEATS".

So thats why Im asking.

If anyone can provide a demo perhaps of someone aimbotting it would be great. Also, does anyone know of a website that might list all the hacks currently in TFC and explains what they are and how to look out for players using them? That kind of info would be great since I dont really know what to watch for with different types of hax.

Do *NOT* download an aimbot so you can "try" it out. When you get busted, and the shit hits the fan, nobody is going to believe that excuse because it's not going to work.

I've encountered aimbotters in TFC a lot (espically around snipers, but I've seen a few soldiers with one for their shotty), and to me, it just looks like they're aiming normally from 3rd person point of view. They have to face the target in order to hit.

In 1st person, I noticed that their xhair just LOCKS on to the target, and doesn't budge. That, or they're just looking around normally, and as soon as a player jumps out, pop, the xhair just flies straight to the enemy and the gun lets loose.

well im far from a newb to TFC. been playing for 3 years and I know the game very well. I just never learned about hacks. I think hackers are lame and ruin the game. <--- and thats an understatment.

But yes, I am a newb when it comes to hacks and what they look like.

It's very hard to tell when spectating someone, if they're actually trying to be discrete. For snipers, I've only really been convinced when they do impossibly quick snapshots on targets that have barely even come into view. However, some snipers are absolutely amazing and can look like they're cheating.

For people aimbotting with shotgun, again lightning-quick snapshots can be a giveaway, especially if their crosshair seemingly 'locks' on to the target (unlike normal aim where there's inertia after a fast mouse movement, and your crosshair would carry on a short distance after going over the target). The most obvious thing to look for with shotgun aimbots are people who can seemingly keep their crosshair locked on the chest area of the enemy. It's really obvious when you start to look for it, for example a player called Manual got busted over here, and in the demos his xhair was locked on soldiers' chests while they moved along 3 different axes in an unpredictable manner.

Aimbotting is like pornography. You know it when you see it. It's generally just impossible kills, consistently.

Here's (http://www.demogarage.com/info.php?id=417) a demo of a blatant aimbotting medic. Watch how he never misses with that shotty. You'll note aimbotters won't use non-hit-scan weapons, such as the rpg, nailguns, or pipes.

fish, find a server with some bots on it. Like foxbots, you can tell because they have no wonid and 5 ping.

play against them.

every bot has aimbot built in, so you can see and feel what they are like.

I play against Foxbots often when I'm practicing moves and shit in LAN, so I know how they play, and that's what originally inspired me to spec Pro a few days back, I was Bhopping along and he took me out (full health/armor scout) with 2 shots with the Super Shotty from quite a distance. This is only possible with 2 perfect headshots (I think...), I know this because the Foxbots would do it to me all the time.

bah Pal - that issue is old and has been discussed already with KA - and obviously im still in the league - the hack associated with that WONID was from CS about 3 years ago. I have never played CS. Just watched a friend play it once.

Meh, anyway.

Anyone know of any websites about other hacks? What to watch out for.. what they do. and so-forth. Preferably one that keeps the site updated with all the new hacks that are out there..
not sure if a website like that exists, but if there is one Id like to know about it.

Im mainly concerned about aimbot snipers. I see a few people around that im highly suspicious of, but I just cant always tell when specing them.
But I always had the understanding that an aimbotter could just shoot in the air and the bullet traveled to the nearest enemy. Now that I know aimbot kinda snaps the xhair to the enemy it will make it a bit easier to spot.

Again, know any good websites?

You can't tell whether or not someone is using an older aimbot by speccing them or HLTV. You have to have a first person demo to be able to judge whether they're using one or not (for the most part). However, if they track people behind walls and make snap shots on enemies they probably wouldn't have seen in the first place, then chances are good they're aimbotting. But just because someone makes a quick shot doesn't necessarily mean they're hacking.

And no offense, but if they're using a newer aimbot that's properly configured, and you need to ask "what's an aimbot," you won't catch them even if you do get a first person demo.

Pretty much everything I've learned about aimbots is in billdoor's index/explanation of cheats, so I'd recommened either asking him about it or searching for and finding the guide (a thread was made about it).

This is only possible with 2 perfect headshots (I think...), I know this because the Foxbots would do it to me all the time. i dont believe that is possible with shotty from a distance, the area of being shot with shotty does not affect the damage (been posted before) it normally causes more damage when hitting the chest because more shells hit the boxes, therefor it would have had to of been a different weapon say from bment to bment at 2fort, 2 shotty shots cannot kill a full hp scout or any other class in that matter.

youre correct, someone who knows nothing about the models' hitboxes or the game of tfc itself, would say something like a hs would take more damage off.

Well if you and a friend (real life friend would be best) met in a server and you d/l an AIMBOT just for that and tested it out AND both of you recorded a demo... I'm sure that would be enough to prove your innocence. Then immediately delete the AIMBOT afterwards.

Of course this is if all else fails... if nothing else you do shows you how it works.

i know exactly what aimbot looks like. the easiest way to detect it is when they arent looking at someone then magically they are aiming at their chest/head and the xhairs never move from their chest/head that is aimbot. VERY easy to detect

Wow, someone's misinformed. Let me take you through a quick, yet thorough tutorial of an aimbot. What Cliche says is PARTIALLY true; However, the statement "xhairs never move from their chest/head" is false. I've saw many aimbots where they A. Lock onto Head, chest, legs, stomache, even groin. There's also B. Aimbot in which moves up and down the body of it's victim. C. the basic aimbot in which Cliche is speaking of. Best way to catch a aimbotter is to watch his style of shooting. If he always aims for the same spot, or moves up and down the victim in the SAME direction/motion each time, you have an aimbotter.

If you're speccing a sniper wait for him to whip out his Assault Rifle. Pay attention to his target and look for a consistent stream of blood coming out of his body.
