Higher Ed

A Michigan college professor, of language and literature no less, was suspended without pay for assigning a short story by James Joyce that included sexual innuendo, reports WDIV-TV.

John Bonnell, a teacher at Macomb County Community College, was suspended following complaints from a student about the content of the class.

The assignment in question was to read a Joyce story entitled The Boarding House. A passage from the story reads: "She knew he had a good screw for one thing and she suspected he had a bit of stuff put by."

Critical Mass (http://www.erinoconnor.org/) has been all over this one and has more details.

Now It's Just 'Bordering On'

The Chancellor of Maricopa County Community College was fired last week, reports the Arizona Republic, in part because he looks at women and treat them in ways that “border on sexual harassment.”

Members of the board of the college said women on campus were uncomfortable with the way Fred Gaskin looked at them. One wrote that she was afraid to ride in the elevator with him.

The first one is insane.

The second one probably has something to it. (not saying definitely, but probably, yeah)

I remember a gym teacher in grade 9 that used to creep out all of the girls. He stared at their chests when he talked to them, and would just look at them in weird ways that they didn't like.

When a large number of girls complain about it, there is probably more to it than simple everyday leering that the rest of us do. ;)

I agree that there COULD be something to the second one... But I prefer to give him the benefit of doubt.

Also, I suggest you click on the Critical Mass link from the first quote... Goes into more detail about the situation and its absurdness.
