Stigmata, The Messenger are the only two I can think of that are "sacreligious".

The Last Temptation of Christ (alluded to in Donnie Darko in a rather obvious way) created a storm of controversy at its release. But many of these "anti-religious" movies are really just less-religious movies that only offend fundamentalists.

They tried to hard to make a pseudo-religious film with Reloaded, and failed...miserably. Sometimes it's hard to live up to your own hype. What worked so well for the first one was that they didn't try to make a religious reference film...or lock down on one particular theology...they just sort of mixed things up and went with it...leaving it up for interpretation. Reloaded told you what you were supposed to think, and how to think it. That's where they failed.

American History X was a great movie. I have a somewhat weak stomach so there were some parts that made me cringe, but it was definitely a great movie. Ed Norton is really good in it.

Yeah, that movie made Edward Norton a movie God in my book. I've seen that movie so many times and it doesn't get old. It does make me want to cry at parts though...

By the end of evangelion do you mean where the last angel dies or the episode afterwards where everyone is in the chair in the dark. Because the chair in the dark episode was lost on me.

Neither... End of Evangelion is the movie version of the last two episodes. It's basically a remake that has a different narrative but the same plot overall. It's more about action that introspection (at least at the start) and it's really, really, cool.

I didn't like American History X - too much romanticization. The Believer is similar, and a much better movie; writing and acting are far superior.

The End of Evangelion is incredibly fucked up and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Desperation by Stephen King. Yes I am aware he said "movies", but this book made me think about shit more than any other thing I have ever seen/read/heard. Great book, I reccommend it to everyone.

Want thought provoking? See the Lupin III tv series and movies dubbed. Then ask yourself why the fuck can't 3 companies (Pionnier, Funimation and AnimeEgo) share the same damn voice actors?

I like it, even though occasionally I get bits of bad acting from it.

contact was a bit abstract, but aside from that it was pretty good. One of the few movies with aliens that was believable.
Yeah, the way that they made it look like "this is how it would really happen if it happened tomorrow" was neat.
