MSNBC Fires Host Savage for Wishing AIDS on Caller
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030707/tv_nm/television_msnbc_dc_4
That schmuck deserved to get fired, not only for the comment, but just for being who he is.

Damn...I thought he was pretty funny. And yeah...I agree with his AIDS comment...I hate the lifestyle...not the people who live it. There's nothing I can do to change them...but the way they live their life blows IMHO.

Following your philosophy a Baptist could wish the same thing on a Catholic and everything would be just fine and dandy?
He's a bigot... Simple as that.
Not agreeing with another's lifestyle does not mean you should wish something as horrible as AIDS on them. It's disgusting to think you agree with that.
So I guess that makes you a bigot as well...

I guess I didn't specify well enough, I find his brash humor refreshing, and I agree with what he said...not that I would wish AIDS on anyone in public...but it was rather funny...and I applaud him for having the balls to stick to his guns.
Also, I'm neither Baptist or Catholic..so sure...let them argue all they want.

My uncle is gay so I don't really hate a single person for being gay. I think just out right gayness is bad, it is a disgrace to humanity.

I never did see the show. But is anyone surprised?
FAIR:
He has spoken of "the grand plan, to push homosexuality to cut down on the white race" (San Francisco Bay Guardian, 9/20/00). In his book Savage Nation, he complained that Sen. Hillary Clinton and Supreme Court justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sandra Day O'Connor have "feminized and homosexualized much of America, to the point where the nation has become passive, receptive and masochistic."
When critics pointed out these earlier remarks to MSNBC-- a cable channel co-owned by General Electric and Microsoft-- they were dismissed by MSNBC president Erik Sorenson, along with similar attacks on women and people of color. "He hasn't said anything bigoted or hateful on MSNBC," Sorenson told the St. Petersburg Times (3/7/03). "His main thrust for us is going to be national security. I'm going to watch his show...and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt."
Asked about specific slurs made by Savage, like references to "homosexual perversion," Sorenson said: "Those statements as quoted by GLAAD and FAIR are not appropriate for MSNBC.... Those kinds of statements will not be permitted. And if they do happen, they won't happen more than once."

Link me something that shows that.
Being gay could not possibly be genetic imo because it offers no evolutionary advantage and couldn't possibly be passed on.
Not that there is anything wrong with it, as long as its kept private. I don't care to know those kind of things about people.

You missed all the points of my entire post.
The statement itself was not funny. So once again... You say you agree with what he said and found the statement to be funny.... So that makes you a bigot as well...
Being Baptist or Catholic was not the issue... It as an analogy... But I guess you missed that point too.

realy,
There is at least one particular primate species that exhibits homosexual acts that I know of (cannot think of its name though, learned about them in an anthropology class). Actually... They just like to rub genitalia... both males and females. I'm not sure if the males actually penetrate each other though.... Cannot recall.

Honestly, I could care less if all the gays in the world suddenly dropped off the face of the planet. They live an immoral lifestyle, and they're going to burn for it anyway...so why should I care what happens to them? Call me a bigot if it helps you sleep at night.

So I don't understand why this guy was canned? It was an MSNBC show aimed at tackling issues with an extreme approach brought about through an extreme host. He took a call that attacked his shows quality/reputation and rebutted the caller using extreme terminology. Whats the problem? Not pc enough for viewers? Well technically the viewers MSNBC was gearing this program towards AREN'T SUPPOSE TO BE PC!!!
This guy may spew alot of shit during his show (I've never watched it, just heard the sound bites from the call) but thats the idea behind the show, to stir up contraversy and dialogue. MSNBC knew the direction they wanted this show to go, so why pull the plug when it finally gets to that level? The guys a bigot, if you watched the show you knew that, MSNBC knew that when they hired this guy. So how come the outrage when he goes off on a gay caller bashing him?
Wheres all the freedom of speech crusaders that regular this forum? Would this not be a case of freedom of speech violation? Regardless of the idiocity of the statements, isn't this what the viewers of this program want out of the show? Sounds like the best thing that could have happened to that pos media station was this guy going off. Just shows again how the media decides what is right and wrong for it to supply to us.
God forbide people get some thought provoking, realistic discussion from a news source for once.

That's not a very Christian way to look at things...

Philly,
The show was supposedly there to talk about national security... Nothing else. Also... the people in charge supposedly said that would be zero tolerance for such types of comments.

There are homosexual animals. It's a surprise to most people, including myself when I learned of this. I had a bunch of links listed on another thread, click here (http://www.thecatacombs.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13764&perpage=50&pagenumber=1) and scroll down to one of my posts.

thats not the christian way to look at it at all. its your job as a christian to get them to live a healthy christian life (in this case, heterosexuality) and save them from eternal damnation. nice job on that

I'm not trying to say one way or the other, but keep in mind that our society somewhat protects against natural selection, and a gene for homosexuality wouldn't necessarily have to be passed on by gay parents (it could be recessive).
In any case, who gives a shit? Some men like to put their penis into other men's anuses. Big deal.

I agree with the first part, except that the network is huge and doesn't really need any revenue from the show so its more worthwhile for them to get rid of him, possibly loseing a show that could attract a lot of attention (ratings..) over the stigma of their network being called bigots.
As for the freedom of speach, his freedom of speach comes into play in that he can not be prosecuted for being a bigot. in MSNBC's eyes he wasn't doing his job right so they canned him. It would be the same as if the show had a script and he didn't read from the script. This is just little more loosly defined script.
"Being gay could not possibly be genetic imo because it offers no evolutionary advantage and couldn't possibly be passed on."
Genetic impotence still persists even though these people could not be reproducing, atleast before the advent of modern medicince.
There are also many genetic problems that could prevent a person from reproducing.
And for whoever said they live an immoral lifestyle: what the fuck are you talking about?

The idea is to repent and ask for forgiveness... Not do/think things you know to be wrong and blame them on your humanity.

On the whole thing about animals engaging in "gay sex": so what? What's your point? Animals do all kinds of weird things that we don't do. Many species kill their mate (usually the female kills the male) after intercourse. Male lions kill all the cubs not of his own line when he takes over a pride. Are you going to start suggesting that we do these things because animals do it? Of course not. Don't be absurd. Justify your ways however you like but don't try to point out what animals are doing. We're above animals. We have the ability to rationalize and choose. Why is it so hard for people to say that they choose to be the way they want to be?

The point is the "unnatural" claim... Since animals do it how can we say it is unnatural?
On top of that... Who are we to really say what is natural? This has been done by humanity for thousands of years (e.g. Greeks ). It was widely accepted, much like prostitution (if we can sell our minds and physical abilities, why can we not sell our bodies?).
No one is saying that gays do not choose their lifestyle. In fact, we do not know why people are gay. It is most likely a combination of factors, including choice and environment.
So don't be absurd.

Exactly.
I've seen his show on MSNBC a few times and it's tame compared to his radio show. It was really just a matter of time before he said something really wrong.
They knew what they were getting since they no doubt listened to his radio show first. It's all about ratings. He spews crap that no person with brains could really agree with. He's just another radio host shit-stirrer. Nothing more nothing less. Let him go to Fox. He'd be perfect there.
