View Full Version : Security Cameras...

How do y'all feel about security cameras being installed in bathrooms of public places? It seems that companies have been in legal fights every week involving security cameras in bathrooms and the school systems are battling the same problem. Granted, a sign at the front door tells customers of closed-circuit security in the establishment. Should that sign allow cameras to be put anywhere or no? Also, if a place of business has that sign at their entrance(s), shouldn't that be the customer's responsibility whether to enter the store or not? And by entering the store, they agree to the closed-circuit security cameras used?

Personally, I don't have a problem with security cameras. But, I think putting them in bathrooms is a bit much (pending of course, where they are located).
I feel that there can be a camera in a bathroom and still not invade their privacy. Granted, it might not work in ALL bathrooms, but some.
Regardless, I'm against camera in bathrooms.
Now that I've rambled on enough, I'm going back to sleep. Lunch will be over in 15 minutes.

If you're referring to the recent incident where the school placed security cameras in the locker rooms...
They were fucking stupid to think they could get away with it. Cameras should not be placed in such areas.

You'd be amazed at how idiotic and thoughtless high schoolers are.
3 years ago back in high school my buddy had his cd player stolen from inside his locker... even had a lock on it. sick bastards brought one of those heavy duty cutters with them in their bag...

I think it's all right.
As far as department stores go they should do it. Bathroom doors don't open directly on to the restroom so if you installed one right above the door stores could see who walks in with merchandise and who walks out with merchandise without jepordizing any privacy.

That's really besides the point. That unfortunately happens. Having security cameras in locker rooms however, is even worse than having something stolen.
Having them in bathrooms where nothing private can be watched I could accept... but not in locker rooms... That's just too far.

Actually, I decided to post a thread about this because of the camera recently found at an Atlanta-area Toys'R'Us in the bathroom. It may not have made national news, but it was all over the local news.

I really don't have a problem with cameras in a bathroom as long as they are not pointed at me taking a shit/piss.
If there is a camera facing the doors and another down the sinks, it's pretty easy to tell if someone has shoplifted an item or to catch people smoking.

there is no need for a camera in a bathroom when a bathroom has only 1 door in and out. Why do you need to record someone actually in a bathroom? even if just at a sink? its pointless all you need is a camera showing who enters and exits the bathroom if anything. I dont mind cameras everywhere as long as I dont get busted for buying pot from "homeland security" cameras.

Not quite. The bathroom is a bit excessive but a camera in a standard boys locker room in a high school is worse than theft? I think not...
I was never the type to do stupid shit when I was younger... having a camera in a locker room wouldn't effect me one way or another unless I was a) afraid to take off my shirt in front of a camera or b) wanted to jack something.
Anyways, nobody should video tape people droppin a deuce or takin a shower... but those are usually done in a seperate part of the locker room, people don't shower and shit right in front of the actual lockers themselves.

A camera in a bathroom, at least a bathroom that has more than one stall and is not completely open, would really raise few privacy concerns... Aside from people who just do not like the idea with no rational as to why...
Now with a locker room... You have people... usually kids... in various stages of undressing. Something that we all should have problems with. For guys and GIRLS. Its the whole idea of seeing them in their skinnies that raises the problem.
With bathroom cameras, at least those that those on this board are saying would be acceptable, this issue would not arise.
So I have to wonder why not only do you not see the difference between these two scenarios... but why your opinion is completely opposite of many here... including myself.

Cameras in bathroom = bad. Especially because in a high school bathroom, because you'll just have kids (such as myself) who destroy them.
That doesnt mean its a bad idea... It just means there would need to be a way to protect them.....

I think armed guards would be better. Would you rob a locker when a guy has a M-16 standing 5 feet away?
