I'm looking into either building myself a new comp or using one of those sites where u pick the parts and they build it. So i've been reading all of unabombers faq's (thank you, big help) and he mentions memory in dual chennal or asynchronos mode. When the comp is being assembled do you need to somehow enable this or will it just work if the mobo and memory support this.

Also i'm looking into spending <700$ and i would like to go with amd if anyone would like to help (unabomber did something simliar to this in the faq's but things change a lot in 2 months) <500$ would be great since i think i will probably need to get a monitor.

Thanks for any help.

After reading all the faq's and browsing newegg i've come up with this:

Asus Motherboard for AMD Athlon XP Processors, Model# A7N8X-X Retail
has agp 8x (1.5v only) <- will that be a problem?
onboard lan and sound.
Chipset:Nvidia nForce2 400 + nForce2 MCP
FSB:400 / 333 / 266 / 200 MHz $87

MSI Ti4200-VTD8X (MS-8894-060) GeForce 4 Titanium 4200 DDR/SDRAM 128MB 8X AGP Video-in TV-out Dual VGA CARD - RETAIL $124

AMD ATHLON XP 2500+ "Barton" 333 FSB PROCESSOR CPU- RETAIL $90

CRUCIAL MICRON 512MB 64x64 PC 2700 DDR RAM - OEM $80

Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM ST380011A Hard Drive EIDE OEM $81

MSI DragonWriter CDRW 52X24X52 Model MS-8352A EIDE OEM $38

MSI DVDROM 16X DVD, 48X CDROM Model MS-8216 D16 EIDE RETAIL $31

Basically does anyone see any conflicts or do any of these parts raise redflags that i don't know about?

Also what cables will i need to get will drives come with the cables or what else do i need to purchase.

Unabomber, i will most likly get a skyhawk case and power supply from http://www.electroseller.com but what fans should i have put in it also when you order the case you can have cables added too, should i get those (as i said before i dont' know what i need to get in the way of cables)

As for a monitor i'll probably just get one locally to avoid shipping costs or i may just use a tv until a cheap monitor falls out of the sky.

get 2 256 sticks of pc3200 cuz ur motherboard supports it and it is better (faster) I like the Corsair XMS series. its called dual channel mode, which runs the memory at twice the bandwidth.

I personally like Lite-on > all for cd/rw burners. And cables should probably come with all of your parts, but I like rounded cables cuz they keep your case uncluttered and they look cool too.

how big of a PS are u gonan get? i recommend at least 400 watt if not more.

well i'm tentativly only getting 1 512 causei will either right away or in the near future get another 512.

On that dual memory though do i need to get specific memory for it to run like that or any two sticks will work?

Ep.

Dual Channel should work with any compatible name brand / model that works well in normal operation, though you may have to back off the timings a bit.

My own $.02 is that I would pop the extra $12 for the 'OCZ DDR RAM 512MB PC-3200 400Hz Basic Series Memory OEM' Newegg is selling. It's very capable of running with very aggressive timings @ 333MHz, and should work well in dual channel.

ok i may get that memory instead, thanks.

On the video card though does anyone know what voltage it runs at because i cant' find it in the specs anywheres and the mobo says it can only take 1.5v.

Thanks for all the input
