NEED HELP WITH WIRELESS INTERNET!!!

OK first off cable and dsl arent available in my area. My only option is wireless and it isnt bi-directional so i get highspeed down and regular dialup up. when I open hlsw and view a server I get around 150 ping. but when I join the server it goes to over 1000 usually around 1500. Ive tried different settings, cl_cmdrate 20 cl_updaterate 20 rate 2500 and cl_rate 2500 are my current settings. Does anyone know how I can stabilize my ping while IN the server? Can ANYONE help me? Im dieing to play and am so close....

Ok I just got off the phone with my isp, after repeated bitching at them it seems like they did something and i can now play with a stable ping. Thanks for your suggestions guys.
