I just got home from a week's vacation and after unpacking I flip on the switch to both computers... only to find that my good one is not working. Just to clear up a few facts: I turned off all power when I left and there was no way that any kind of power surges could have done anything. NORMALLY (as with most other PCs) my computer makes a "beep beep" noise when it starts, then checks the floppy disk drive etc etc. and yes, I have made sure all the wires are in place externally and internally.
Here's what happens:
I turn on my computer and instead of the normal "beep beep" i get a "beeeeee-eeeeeee-eeeeeep", it then checks for a floppy disk and just stops right there. The bios doesn't come up, the screen just goes to the idling screen ("Your monitor is working correctly" blah blah). The computer then just sits there and does nothing. Also, I have an optical mouse (intellimouse explorer) and the laser thing will come on for a split second when i start the comp up then just go out. The keyboard does have power though.
Here are my specs:
Gigabyte mobo (not sure which model, too lazy to check it out, a new one tho with 8x AGP and integrated sound/lan card)
Athlon XP 2000+
512MB PC2700
nVidia geforce4 ti4200 64MB 4x
western digital 40GB
maxtor 40GB
that's about all the important stuff
NOTE: one of my friends said he had a similar problem and it was with the ram/ram slot. however i changed the ram slot and it did nothing, it could still be the ram but i hope it's not =/
any kind of help would be appreciated
