I just read that thread that was heading in the wrong direction for the first time as i don't read any tfc forums anymore (just tech center and general discussion). i guess i'll make it clear to everyone as to what is going on:
i was approached one day about someone possibly buying the catacombs. lich nor i are interested in doing anything with the site anymore as we both have a lot of stuff going on in our lives at the moment. instead of closing it down, we decided to indeed sell it. why sell you ask? well, we put a lot of time into the site and we have had offers in the past to make a lot of money off of the site. we both agreed that we didn't want the site to fill up with spam and banners and make you guys pay to register or have a pay per registration sponsor type deal where your info is given out. looking at it from a business standpoint, we realized we had something good and we'd like to get compensated for our work over the last couple of years. call us sellouts if its your cup of tea, but we provided a service to you just like anyone else provides services that people pay for. you're not even going to be paying for this service either, someone else will as has been done for our hosting.
anyway, i was approached by evil69 as he expressed interest. when the PB guys heard about it they (as i was told by Lich) expressed interest in purchasing the site as well. i was then told that they were out of the running for it and i decided to sell it to evil. a down payment was made to keep it in his hands and the sale was completed.
after being approached by gunslinger and redman, i found out some things that i was unaware of previously. PB did a great deed for us when they took over the hosting of the site and held it like pwnz.net did, so it was only natural to keep it on their servers as redman expressed interest to me personally once again that he wanted to purchase the site. i talked it over with lich and we agreed it would be in the best interest of all three parties involved to do so. i returned evil's down payment on the site with an apology as i felt uncomfortable about the situation and the promise i had made, but there is other info which is personal that i'd rather not release that pretty much made it hard to hand the site over to him.
that said, redman and PB as well as GBC will be running the site from this point on. the sale will be completed hopefully by next week and lich and i will become what i have always considered us to be anyway, innocent bystanders of the site. I never really used my admin powers on the forums unless it was drastically needed and i tried to provide you with the best staff possible to run with our vision.
a couple of things id like to say before the site is handed over.
we started the site because when i was in negative zero and lich was in the undead, we both did predictions on our own sites and liked doing so. lich and i had a vision to put the sites together and do predictions on one site. that became a reality when catacombs v1 was built and we expanded into a news section. we quickly gained the interest of about 250 people a day and decided the site needed more information. we expanded it into a full blown tfc news site to compete with the news sites at the time, most notably TFTribune. we didn't like how Tuba (although respected him for it) was running his site so we decided to change some things around and make the necessary changes to get more visitors.
all in all, we pretty much took over the scene when we spent countless hours doing match results the night of matches (manually might i add, which is something we are proud of) so that people would have something to read the next day at work in the mornings. eventually as you all know, tftribune shut down. other sites popped up throught the times, but none combatted our "monopoly" on the tfc news scene. we thank everyone for their participation in helping the site become what it is today and we couldn't have done it without you. there are the people like Vr and other spyfx followers or followers of other sites that died trying to beat us out that will always be the biggest hypocrites on the planet and talk about how they hate this site and all and still come here and post daily. we welcome you rejects just like we welcome everyone else, all of you helped make it a diverse place.
i never expected the site to become a "way of life" as some of you have put it to anyone in the community and i never took it as so. it was a fun project to work on for the amount of years we did and i'm sure everyone else who worked on it feels the same way. there is just a burn out point that both lich and i got to and its time to move on. i rarely even have time to do my homework anymore, nonetheless work on this site. i'm sure pb and the gang will do a great job with it.
thanks to everyone that's stayed with us over the years, love us or hate us, the site is here for you to use at your own free will.
good luck to pb and company in the future as i konw they will hold the name in the high regards we hoped it would attain some day.
