TFC Legends?

if there is such a thing... i know there's been "best of what class" threads, but if you were going to make a "hall of fame" per se of TFC, who would you throw in there as having actual impact on the way the game was played? (clan, person, whatever)

my thoughts:

KiN - TFC's first great clan, only losing 13 times or something ridiculous like that. most of those losses handed by one clan... CE

PF.Vega - God only knows how long PF has been around, it takes something that 99% of the tfc clans today don't have to lead a clan for that long. granted they had their fall out, but imo it's pretty impressive to be one of the first clans... and hopefully be one of the last. (props to |{ for this too)

CNBL-HeadHunter - maybe not in the fall of CNBL, and like it or not... his clan knew how to win, and they put out some of the best players the game's ever seen (sploosh's medic still amazes me)

|SD| - dominated the game a few years ago and stayed around as a respectful clan for quite a while.

Zt. - until they came around i had never seen such pure talent in one clan (not that i've been around for ages or anything), i'd also never seen one clan rape as many people as they did ;p

OD/XD - talk about starting a trend lol

Rent_A_Knight - stepping out on a limb for this one i think... but it seems like to me that he made a lot of people re-evaluate how they were playing medic and probably just put even more people in awe by his pure skill.

whoever created Sparky - i don't use it, but (edit) IT definately put the fun back in the game for a lot of people.

Funny how nobody mentions the people like Virus PHISH and Jigg. PHISH and Jigg are two of the best players I know and have made TDA what it is today. Jigg is a fuckin equal if not better than Rent. Skill in one clan means nothing if you dont bond. Thats all I have to say.

These people throughout the years have gottin my attention and I consider them Legends of TFC.

CE belongs up there as well as being another of the big clans of TFC. Erinyes should definetly be up there.

MassacrE as well, he has been the center of a lot of controversy of TFC, and fooled almost all of us when he returned as Boost. I mean, he got back into BW and XD under that name. MassacrE is definetly one of the big names of TFC and belongs in the hall of fame, even if for not the best reasons.

SonGoku for providing us with public servers to have fun on, even though they have slowly dwindled down to nothing with the hoard of 100 mindless hypocritical admins and noobs and asshats that flock the phat farms, but you must admit they were lots of fun at one point.

Kastro, Lich, maizy and the rest of the catacombs crew for obvious reasons. I don't think I can imagine this community being what it is today if not for this forum and website (which im looking forward to having put back up soon ;) )


DrLove for the late (!). Nobody but him could have kept a clan alive that long at that level of competition through all the hardships they faced. And hes a great guy as well, definetly deserves probs.

that's very true about bonding, zerosouls... the only thing with that is, as an outsider, i really can't see how well people/teams have bonded. you can get some idea based on how often people are leaving and how well the team consistantly plays, but other than that i have no clue how good person A's relationship is with person B and so on. anyhow..

i didn't think to mention catacombs, thanks for giving us a place to talk :P

and ditto to the server admins who give us a place to play.

i would also have to say custom-tfc... not that customizing tfc wouldn't be possible without them, but they've at least provided a warehouse of different things you can use to change the game... whether it be hacks or not, changing around my crosshairs and weapon models has at least made my personal gaming a lot more fun. :)

edit: i do remember ghob and gup20, but sadly i was a 2-week newb when they were in their prime, so i've really only heard about them :/ i would definately include them simply because, from what i understand, they really made mastering the hw something to accomplish... more than just holding down +attack.

Dion and Kablammo for offense - no one else that I ever saw came close. I played defense against just about every offensive legend listed here... let me tell you... practice each week against those two was a lot more difficult than playing any other offensive players in TFC. It's like night and day.

Maj GHOB definately changed the way we used to look at HW. Later OBR and Goku.

Love them or hate them... Massacre and Headhunter for their controversial nature - the soap opera of TFC was born. IMHO, that soap opera was the only reason TFC has lasted as long as it has. We needed to visit the forums each day to gossip and flame.

404/KiN Snare - can't believe no one mentioned this guy. He was pure domination at both offense and defense. Probably the first REAL offensive soldier that was a machine and consistant at raping defenses. Also an excellent demoman with and without the detscript.

KaBlammo - in his prime, probably the best medic/soldier combo there was. I played with kab alot back in the day, and his skill progressed so fast it was scary. I know alot of people don't like him, but me and him were always cool (we were pre patch dm whores), and you can't deny how good he was.

Dion - in his prime, the best utility player there was. He could play any class and play it top notch. I remember when ELB first played CNBL on well... first rush..this guy was in our fr before our defense, pulled the flag out, and capped before our d was even done setting up. We were like wtf!

[ELB]DeadlyEngineer - the most overlooked player in this game..still. An unbelievably talented leader, and truly loves the game. People do not give him the credit he deserves. He has kept ELB running through the ups and downs regardless what the circumstances. He is still in my opinion the best engineer in the game...as well as an excellent soldier.

Zslick - known this guy for a long ass time. Still in my opinion the best overall demoman to play the game. He was way ahead of everyone in skill level in the way he played demo. An extremely smart player, with unbelievable pipe control. Always willing to help anyone, and one of the nicest guys i've met through TFC.

Seph and Thulsa basically taught me to play soldier, though indirectly, and want to get better.

Virus, PHISH, Jigg, (and Deathmark in the early days) for keeping TDA running, and all having an abundance of skill (except Virus :p)

[TDA]Aerodactyl - still one of the best spies I've ever seen, if he still played he's be a monster.

Entreri, Graffix, slaws, and Snakebite for sticking it out with RES and being cool people in general.

Those people are legends to me, at least.

I would say any league admin. Having to put up with all the nonsense players spew on a daily basis is just plain abuse. Players don't realize that it's a privilage to be playing in a league no matter if they agree with the rules or not.

Most if not all clan leaders. It takes a lot of time to run a clan. These people usually have school/jobs and then on top of that they spend hour after hour with their players.

Fan and news site maintainers. I'm not talking about ones that die after a week. I always forget the first stock exchange, but that one and SDSE and KSE along with The Catacombs, demogarage and many other sites that host files and provide daily entertainment and information.

As for players I've always been a huge fan of Dion and Kablammo. They were simply two of the best overall players I've had the privilage to play with. They could play either offense or defense (or for those of you who like the swing player they could do both at the same time hehe) and be a dominant player. I would put Gup20, but his constant breathing in the microphone removes him from this catagory. . . that and a certain zebra striped thong thing. . .

Last of all I say that I am a legend simply because I purchased the game and have played it since it came out. . . in reverse order. . .

But anyway, along those lines, guys like zon and Azlan, ran their clans and leagues for a long time, it takes a shitload of work most people would choose not to deal with.

Legends might be a bit strong to describe anyone in TFC. Influential might be a bit closer to reality.

For me it has to be U-238. When I found TFC in '99 they had the only servers that would ping less than 300 for most of us on the west coast (almost all of us were on dialup at the time).

The skill level was from fantastic to newbie...but all of the Uranium guys were willing to take time to talk to the newbs (me) with respect, they showed us how to do those amazing things (rocket jumping, conc jumping, setting dets)...fun times.

For me those were the glory days. I still see many of the other newbs I used to pub with. Today many of them are in top clans and most of them are still the friendly and considerate gamers I met so many years ago.

I don't know how many clans formed out of those Utah servers...too many to count. Some of them still exist today. The day U-238 died was actually a sad day...the only consolation being that many of them joined the cool guys at FooM.

These things are just popularity contests and people spewing out names they have heard others say over and over

agreed, when guys like forever who i've heard of starting 3 weeks ago say :

Sceptro: Had the benefit of playing with him from '99 till the beginning of '02. We were in the old ELB then -RR- togther. Basically everything i learned was from emulating his style. He literally won us matches by himself. An offensive machine that could rape as any O class. Unfortunately we lost him to the great tfc killer (damn you daoc!). Still in my opinion the best overall offensive player there ever was.

I remember playing PB on enclave. Prior to the match [eXeL]Polybius said "No sniper can be that good" because we talked him up pretty high. To say Poly was humbled at the end of the match would be an understatement.

Well we are not legends but like all those that have posted saying "have been around for ever" I have to mention my own clan Elemental Dragons since we never get thought of becuase of our record or level of play.

EagleTalon from [JEC] was just as good as him if not better back in the day(sniping wise) before he retired, anyone who's really been around this game knows what he's done.

I'm not really a fan of naming legends because it's biased, but [JEC] has been around longer then almost any clan today and is still going to this day as a TFC(on top of other games) community. Not only has it produced some of TFC's best soldiers, medics, etc, but it's still alive through a lot of this games history. I gotta give a shout out to them. For those of you who dont know about it, then I guess you are misguided in your TFC history.

I gotta also give bona props about 1.5 becuause still to this day I say "FUCK" about 1.5. :)
