I'm on a trip to Hong Kong and I had the fortune of being able to access a computer in a building with the bandwidth equivalent of a few OC-48s (many many gigabits per second). So I load up TFC to maybe play a game or two, but I can't find any servers with less than a 300 ping. Now I know it's not the connection, so I'm guessing there just aren't any TFC servers close to this part of the world. What is it about TFC/Half-Life that it's only played in the U.S. and Europe? Was it only sold there? Or is everyone here just too busy playing starcraft?

Nah it's a pretty nice connection and a fast route, I guess I just have to search more :|

Or maybe set up a little server myself and see who joins :P

I can't quite recall, but I think that bandwidth doesn't automatically mean a low ping; like I used to ping 35 on my 64k ISDN and now ping 30 on my 1/2mb ADSL...

There used to be a really strong Japanese/HK TFC community, I've lost the link though. They treated TFC rules like a samurai honor code, very cool stuff. They had very skilled servers, and they love trying to speak english to native speakers. I'll dig around and see if I can find out if they're still playing.

Just click on the link, and pull up the Team Fortress Classic server page, they only have 2 of them now. There are some good ones in Japan with the ANC tag, that's the only other one I recognize anymore.
