Here's my first avi with all match material while I was in ^up with some from an eK match. It's only 53.3mb zipped so it should be an easy download.
http://isk.recongamer.com/fattie/WhereAmI.zip 39.9MB
http://www.filemirrors.com/search.src?file=XviD_Install.exe - Xvid Codec
Thanks to Venny for hosting a HLTV so that I could record my speed runs, also thanks to Fattie from AFM/iSk for hosting the avi.

The quality wasnt that great, but the action was nice and made up for the pretty effects imo.

Hmm ... some good stuff Pablo :)
Quality in some parts could use some work but in other parts it seemed fine, weird lol but anywho, good job, very neat.

4/5 , first class camera angles, good choice of music, a little on the short side, but the editing and footage definately made up for that. wish the quality hadnt of messed up in the middle ;/

I'm thinking the pixelation effect in the middle was an effect and he meant it to be that way to add to the confusion, hence the title "Where Am I?"
Good Stuff Mr. Pablo.

215K/s, ill tell you what i think in 3 min.
*edit* i actually enjoyed that avi a lot. its a very fun piece that doesnt dick around and rely merely on editing skill. i think the chase cam made it more entertaining to watch as well. while the music wasnt my favorite, it sure fit the avi.
good job.

if you say so :)
Actually my demo was messed up there and also i think is that those shots arent bad, but all the others are above average due to not having a moving camera, so after compiling they looked almost the same quality.
Now for people who do compiling to help, i'll tell you my steps and anyone who knows anything post any new info i could use.
Recorded at 30FPS at 1600x1200 originally, used Video mach and compressed each into seperate avi's per "scene" at 640x480 using Xvid. Put everything together alightly lengthenin and shortning some shots to fit music beat and added 1 minor effect for Ofire speed run and the Well repition, then compiled using Xvid again. The audio i opened in audiodub but wouldnt let me compile it again at anything above 57 bit so i didnt compile the sound any. the stats of the sound are: MPEG 1.0 layer 3 - 128bit - 44.1kHz stereo.

You'll want to capture the shots at 640x480 or so from the get-go. If you have a nice video card, you can pump up Anisotropic Filtering and it will make it look better. You can also use Anti-Aliasing to get rid of the jaggies if that's a problem with the final product.

Yeah, nicely done- I thought the music was appropo, and (image quality aside) the editting and shot selection was well done.

Let me be the first to say, that avi showed some truly newbie demomen. Worst demo play ever? Probably not, but certainly damn close. Most of the concs were routine, but the defensive play was truly asstastic.
Other than that though, I liked the AVI, camera angles, editting, music, etc. :)

lol
pablo is definently one of the most underrated players in tfc - better than me (not saying much...but still) and he's been playing probably 1/6 as long as I have.
and yea, worst demomen ever (and i know who some of them are, mwahahaha) :p

very entertaing avi. never a dull moment.

that avi would be awesome if it had better quality, but it was still a great avi. short and sweet, nj.

KK so now i know 1 place i need to revamp for future avi's... Quality is a must. Anything else people can directly suggest to improve or things i should keep?
Idea's such as was it worth speeding up and slowing down shots JUST to make an explosion/conc match a sound or should keep reg speed and get more footage in... Should I use 640x480 or 800x600 or what as resolution next time?
Thanks again for all your comments they'll help me in my next one (whenever i can start getting more HLTV's of matches and get some playing time in).
Also, You all say quality is not great, are you implying entire movie or just that Darkness shot where it goes fuzzy as hell? if any other parts please say which one's in particular as im gonna actually of thinking of making this one but in higher quality since it's a huge issue.
P.S. Song is "Won't Lie Down" (Kombat Mix) - Face to Face
- also i wasn't sure if this was easy to see but the shot on Torch 2 where it's capped then goes to chase cam then back to next cap, that was consecutively.

I think Widescreen resolutions look nice. Beyond, for example. My test AVI that I did used 720x480 or something with Uber's Dust Wads. I used 4x9tap Anti-Aliasing and 8x Anisotropy and it looked pretty damn nice. I got like almost 5 minutes of footage and a 160 kbps mp3 into 60 megs as well using some Microsoft codec in Windows Movie Maker 2. I was very pleased with the results.

Pros:
I liked the CZon conc over the SG. Very nicely done.
Good job on the 2mesa3 move.
The defense was, to quote someone earlier in this thread, asstastic. Those defense on blood-tube should have been shot. ;)
Bad defense makes O look great, and I love it like that. :) :)
Song was good for the avi.
3rd person view is always nice.
Torch2 around the HW, Soldier, and Demo into pot looked great from the angle you had it at - well choreographed. :)
I very much liked the from-the-pot views on Torch2, in spite of the terrible demomen. :)
Cons:
Yeah - that quality was not good at all. I recommend looking at www.planetfortress.com/HLMP b/c they have a lot of tutorials on improving quality, final compiling steps, and what to do with the footage to keep it from losing quality over the various compressions, etc etc. The Darkness footage was quite blotchy, still not sure what was happening.
I know ya can't help it, but the absence of a flag on the carrier on Vidar was kinda odd. :) (Vidar entity bug, I know. Just saying! )
My personal opinion is that people should stop doing run-throughs of normal maps without other players on them, unless you've got some cool skill stuff that you're doing with it. For example, if you triple-ramp slide the Mortality_L concs while going in, that's fine and dandy, people'll say COOL. But the openfire_L run you put in... well... everyone who watches these avis knows how to do that by now and it doesn't have an effect other than yawning while they wait for new footage. (Now, if you have match footage of it, that's fine!)
GJ on it, I look forward to seeing some more from ya! :)

kk I figure if im redoing this avi im gonna say my steps first...
I'll record at 1600x1200 again as it makes image much crisper than recording at 640x480 even though final avi is in that res, I'll turn on anti-alliasing as well and antiscopic filterin to max.
I'll then use videomach and put into avi's completely uncompressed, than when everything is set up im gonna export using xvid but im unsure of the bitrate as well as what pass. thanks again everyone.

One thing you might find, compressing it down from 1600x1200 to 640x480 has the effect of compressing everything else down too, for example, if any of your footage relies on people being able to read the text being said, see the death-message for added effect (a giant spam kill, for example) or anything of that sort, you'll all but lose it with that type of resizing. Additionally, detailed textures will lose some of their sharpness at that type of resizing.
GL on the remake of the video - can't wait to see it :)

New version posted, it was recorded at 640x480 with antiscopic 8x and AA x4 on, and encoded with xvid with 1800 bitrate. camera angles may change on some as i thought i might as well work on it, but mostly its same avi, with exact same scenes.
Enjoy.
