I think there will be attempts and something minor might get through... I don't think anything really major though. At least I hope not, for all they are spending on security if they still get something done, thats a big morale booster for terrorists.

Unfortunately I think there's good chance because what better place to make a statement or get whatever "point" it is you're trying to get across than on a world stage? They had a bombing in Istanbul before the U.S. played Turkey yesterday so it's no wonder that a lot of big name players pulled out for safety reasons.

For some reason, I think we are going to see a repeat of the '72 Olympics. And just to refresh your memories, that was the Olympics that the Palestinian guirrella group help Israelii athletes hostage and even killing 2 of them.

I dont think it would happen only because it would turn world opinion against them. Their trying to make the USA look like the bad guys, not them.

World opinion is already pretty bad for the terrorists, terrorists aren't too worried about being liked, I think thats fairly obvious.
I wouldn't be suprised if there was some kind of attack.
I will be suprised if there isn't one.

Which would be why they did that bombing in Madrid.

This wouldn't have been mentioned before 9/11.
The threat of a terrorist attack is no different now than it was then, in my opinion. Just to be clear, I am not saying it's an absurd idea. It's a great terrorist target, with many countries to target, many things to target, and more witnesses than most anything else could offer. It always has been, even since '72 like Cod mentioned. There is no more likely to be an attack now than 12 years ago. No abnormal increase in likelyhood of an attack. Just possible terrorist attacks have become a bit more.. mainstream.. since 9/11 so to speak. I am not sure how to word what I want to say good, but I hope that's clear enough.

Killing TWO? Try ELEVEN. (http://www.sptimes.com/News/122999/Sports/Terrorists_turn__72_M.shtml)
That was the event that really put the whole "Middle-East-Terrorism" thing on the map for most of America, and probably the world. Sure, there'd been bombings, and hijackings, but Munich was -to borrow from the parlance of "Public Speaking 101"- the attention-getting-device.
And it hasn't gone away since. The end.
Oh, edit- Personally I'd be surprised if anything goes on; they've already got our attention, and why attack what is surely the most heavily-guarded public event ever held? There's a whole world of softer targets, and you'd still generate major media focus if attacks occurred anywhere during the games. The "Pucker-factor" in Athens would skyrocket, and no one would enjoy themselves until they were safely back home. Or at least on the plane flying home...
Hope there's no "swarthy" men on that plane.
Jeezum Crow this planet reeks of fear.

The only major disaster is going to be something stupid american. IE someone fails a drug test or runs their mouth and pisses off the rest of the world and makes them say "typical arrogant americans" At which point we as americans should tar and feather that dumbass
Oh and make an attack during the olympics and even the French might go to war.

You are right, but your opening statement isn't as smart as what follows. If it wasn't for 9/11, there would have been other attacks. There are attacks like this all over. There have been attacks at Olympic games before. At everything like this there is increased security. If it wasn't for 9/11, Saddam may still be free ruling Iraq planning something for the Olympics. Unlikely, but still. The chances are the same, but I don't think people are just saying "Remember 9/11? I've been saying it for 3 years, but something similar will happen THIS TIME...I'm positive!"

I was there at Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games, I want to tons of events and met lots of people from all over the world. I stood on the EXACT spot where the bomb went off a hour before it happened. I remember watching the news in the hotel, they showed the spot of the bomb and I saw it was same spot my sister and I were waiting for my parents to get back. If they would have kept us waiting we would be dead. There were so many people at that show there would be no way to tell if any one had a bomb or weapon. I can tell you this, if some one wanted to do something, they will be able to do it and pull it off easily. Chances are good they will get caught later but not before damage can be done. The one thing that I think would prevent some one from pulling of a attack would be political suicide. If some one attacks the Olympics not only is the US going after them but almost the whole world especialy if people from other countrys are hurt and if its in a public place they will be.

"This wouldn't have been mentioned before 9/11"
That is not ture at all, they were very worried about attacks in Atlanta, every event or venue had a check point where you had to empty your whole bag. Security was very good especialy in the stadiums and stands. After the bomb, security went up 10 fold at least. We were not allowed to even carry backpacks to events any more and all food and items were to be bought inside the event(5 bucks for a bag of M&Ms which normaly cost 50 cents), they even wouldnt allow cameras for a while.

Assuming "we" means USA, then we'd definitely lose considering that the USA mens team didn't qualify for the Olympics.

Nothing will happen, the security is much too great for the Terrorists to pull a stunt off at a major event such as the Olympics. Nothing happened at the Salt Lake City olympics but you never know. If something does happen, I owe you all twenty bucks.
