MADRID, Spain (AP) - Real Madrid acquired striker Michael Owen from Liverpool on Friday, luring another of England's top players and continuing its tradition of blockbuster summer transfers.

lol
ronaldo, raul, morientes, figo, zidane, beckham and now owen
what a team, yet they still dont have a solid defense, even with samuel now on the squad
i highly doubt theyll win it this year either. barca has made some good moves during the off season i really think they are gonna take it
go barca!

Whatever, we don't need Owen anymore. Cisse will take over and lead Liverpool.

Would Owen play over Raul and Ronaldo? Hell, would he play over Morientes? Seriously...
IMO he needs to find a lot better form to get any kind of playing time at Madrid.

Cisse won't overtake liverpool, I rate Baros higher than i do Cisse, by quite a bit... yea i suppose Owen will be on the subs bench quite a bit, but then, i'd rather be on the bench at Real than be on the bench at Liverpool :p
As for La Liga, will be between Barca and Real, I'm tipping Barca though :)

I have a feeling Cisse and Baros will both do very well this season. Cisse is very good. He had a great goal today vs the spurs. I'm a little disapointed on the draw, but its ok.
About Owen getting playing time.. He is going to have to work his ass off to get to play over Ronaldo and Raul. Lets hope he is happy.
I am sad to see him go from my beloved Reds. I am looking forward to this season, I am hoping with can show ManU / Arsenal what we are really made of. Raef is going to be a great manager for us, I expect alot from him.

Now that Arsenal is keeping Viera I think they are the team to beat in the Premiership, and they might just do the Champions League this year too. Reyes is going to be a surprise this year I think he will do very well. Him and Henry should be downright scary up front.

When is Henry not scary? Hes brilliant up top. Owen going to Real is dissapointing bc he will be a waste there i think. With two top class strikers already there (Raul and Ronaldo) I dont think it will be worth his time. The only chance Owen has is beating out Raul because Ronaldo is in another world. I wish Owen would have stayed with the Reds though =\.

Real Madrid have just also signed English centre back Johnathan Woodgate from Newcastle for a fee in the region of 15 million pounds, so clearly Real are going for British ''steel'' and spirit to help them take the title back to the Bernabeu

If their British "steel" stay healthy. Woodgate and Owen do have a history of injury problems...
That said if he's healthy Woodgate is damn good.
I think they are just trying to bring in a few English players so they have people to communicate with while in Madrid, like they can stick together. More of a comfort level for them I think. Otherwise you are kind of a fish out of water. Arsenal does the same thing with French guys, and now some Spanish as well with Reyes and Fabregas.
Does Arsenal have a single English white guy in their first team? I know not starting, but I don't think at all, unless perhaps one of the backup keepers is. Bentley is on-loan at Norwich or he would qualify.
Anyway I'm getting sidetracked, go Gunners!
