Samus is good as an annoyance character. She's probably my best character for 4 person matches, but for 1v1, it's gotta be Mario/Ness/Luigi

Ganon is captain falcon with more manageable speed and more weight. If you like to set up attacks by jumping, ganon is your man because he wont get thrown off the screen at 30% damage if counter-attacked, which also happens to be the weakness for ness, jigglypuff, pikachu, kirby...shit everyone but bowser and dk are lighter than ganon. Plus his high roundhouse kick does extreme damage and counters ANY jumping attack while also being able to rape people on a platform above your head.

I am one of those kids that's sick with the jiggly puff super move, but i'm 22...not a kid :D
if your timing is good, you can even land one on an opponent who is attacking you from below (i.e. you hit their foot with it when they try to kick you or something) Ganon is the ONLY character whose moves cannot be countered like that.

Among the people I know jig and gan are the 2 best. Also I've heard Ness is good.

I only play alone or with friends. But never anyone good.

I really like StarFox - but I really don't like Falco. StarFox weighs so much for some reason, so he barely ever gets killed under 150%. His moves are powerful and his front smash attack has immense range. His blaster is great for slow opponents, sneaking in 3 or 4 shots when they're in the air or moving. Juggling with firefox is easy too.

Ness's best feature is that he can use the pk thunder move to blast himself upwards or sideways or whatever, and you cant be attacked when flying towards a ledge to save yourself because you're electrified until you land. Very, very useful.

I've played in several local tournaments at flea malls/local video game stores, winning quite a few. But this was right when the game first came out. My best and favorite characters were fox and jiggly.

this is the truth. as much as i like DK and gannondorf, if you show up with either to any respectable tournament you're going to get annihilated by Shiek.

jiggly is a threat. link is alright. no one plays roy because he's a strictly worse version of marth, but he's pretty good.

Marth is easily the cheesiest player in the game, followed by fox. His stupid foward smash attack has the most ridiculous punt in the game, and without L dodges it makes him basically unbeatable. Even with L dodges and gliding he is really dangerous in 4 player, as he has the potential to kill you at any time basically.

I personally used to be a ness player only, and eventually branched out into playing random. One name i havent seen mentioned much is peach, WOW is her down smash brutal if used properly.

For racking up damage shiek has no equal, using her foward kick early on will let you rack up 50+ dmg before your opponent can do much. That and she is fast as hell.. I see her alot when i play with good people.

I keep praying they will find a way to do lagless SSB over the internet one day.. its such a twitchy game (atleast when playing really good people) that i dont think normal internet lag would do it justice.

Not really true anymore, in the original smash for n64 his 'ride' as i call it, was basically invicible. In SSBM, it slows down considerably, and you are ripe for a smash.. poor ness took a hardcore gimp from his old glory. With that said, hsi reverse air kick is incredibly good once you get it down, and the running electricity has a bug in it that will punt people foward and down a VERY far distance even with 0 life.

We have a somewhat active SSB/SSBM community here around school; the overall consensus is that the original was better. Melee just has too many unbalanced characters. Marth, Sheik... it's ridiculous.

One of the other bones I have with Melee is the lack of big maps like Hyrule Castle. All the maps are fucking tiny, which makes abusive shit like Marth's smas h attack and (yes I'll admit it) Link's spin-sword fucking ridiculous.

When we play the original SSB, pretty much the only map we play is Link's.

Never really got into the gc one, but I did like Sheik and Ganon. I also hated the maps...I like big flat maps without a ton of shit in the way. It's all about link's castle and storfox's ship.

forgive me for not gracing this thread with my presence in so long, i had to sell my computer to make ends meet. I trust you will all sleep soundly now, knowing that i will still occasionally grace you with my presence.

i don't know what qualifies as a "respectable tournament" in your eyes, but i seriously doubt anyone would annihilate me if i played as ganon, regardless of who they use. DK is only useful for a cheap run through the multi-man melees (non-stop ground slaps), so i'll believe you on that one.

I've never even heard of any tourneys for ssbm, but i guess that's because louisiana isn't exactly a gamer's paradise. It isn't even gamer's hell. It's just kinda there.

Anyone know of any tourneys in texas? I'd be willing to drive a couple of hours if there was a nice prize involved.
