well the network adapter runs $40 bucks (and this is the only thing that is required to play online hardware wise)

I can't find anywhere that talks about any cost per month for madden. Most ps2 games are free online because they are not run by sony, where as everything on xbox must be run through microsoft. FF11 is an exception but it is a MMORPG.
