Nirvana
Tough call picking the 3rd... Pink Floyd and Radiohead are my two favorites and have been for a while. Nirvana is thrown in there just because I seem to be listening to a lot of it this past week and reading Kurt Cobain's biography (Heavier Than Heaven) which is insanely good.

I like the Mars Volta a lot when they're actually playing music, and not making weird noises. Which isn't that much of the time, but yea. People like the weird noises and shit for the same reason people love Radiohead's Kid A. That said, I don't know what the reason is.

Modest Mouse- Great albums to get high to and just awesome music in general.
Radiohead- If I need to comment on this one you should get a taste in music.
The Pixies- Easily one of (if not the) most influential bands of the 80s/90s. The music still holds up and kicks ass today.

All time is:
1. Opeth
2. Tool
....hard to pick a third, since I have never been into any band to the extent that I am currently into Opeth and was once into Tool. I guess any one of the following bands could go in there: Kyuss, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson, Zeppelin, Godspeed. I've had mild flings with all of these bands, but not to the extent where any single one could claim the #3 spot for their own. Maybe one day...

I'm pretty sure the lead singer of Arch Enemy is a chick. Hopefully you were generalizing and calling the band as a group "guys" (I know I sometimes refer to a group of females as guys... like 'hey would you guys like to give me sex?'). If you weren't and thought they were all male, then maybe you shouldn't list them as one of your favorite bands.

Originally Arch Enemy's vocalist was a male, Johan Liiva, and they replaced him with Angela Gossow when he quit before Wages of Sin was released.
Anyway, as for my three favorite bands....man, that's a hard one. Here's my best attempt to pick.
Okay, I can't do it. I'll divide it into two genres, which will make it a little easier.
First off, all time favorite band, which was an easy one : Pink Floyd
Now, for those two genres.
Metal:
1. Iron Maiden
2. Metallica
3. Slayer
Rock (in general):
1. AC/DC
2. Led Zeppelin
3. Collective Soul
Yeah, I realize Collective Soul doesn't really belong in there, for one because they can't compare to Zeppelin or AC/DC and secondly because they've become more pop in their latter years but....damn, I really like them.
TheMOB
February 8th, 2005, 12:08 AM
on the new cd for every minute of music there is 3 minutes of pointless bullshit noise... After their radio friendly song the widow they include 3 minutes of fucking circus music... it doesn't give your music depth or make people think it just fucking ruins anything good about it........ fjalfdjsa
Yea I heard it, I was really really hoping they'd move away from the expermental garbage, but instead they did more of it. And I should probably drop Muse off my list and add the Pixies. How'd I forget them.
Collective Soul is a cool band adam, I think they count as rock, albeit usually on the softer side.

Re: the mars volta
Why is everyone ripping on their new CD when it isn't even out yet? Is there a good quality version somewhere that I missed? Every mp3 I've downloaded is such horrible quality that I refuse to even listen to it. You guys really shouldn't judge it if that's what you're using.
I remember the same thing happening with Radiohead's newest album. The songs leaked, sounded like shit because they were low quality/unfinished and everyone kept talking about how much the new CD sucked. Then it came out and it fucking owned (in my opinion anyway, I know a lot of people didn't like it).

Yea de-loused in the comatorium is supposed to be a journey through the mind of a friend the band who committed suicide. He attempts suicide, goes into a coma and has fucked up dreams, has the opportunity to get out of the coma, but ultimately chooses death.
How the fuck you're supposed to decipher that from the lyrics is a mystery to me.

The reason is because you are not supposed to, they didnt want all the masses know what every word was, tehy made the songs non-radio friendly and made a CD for themselves. They released a book that told the story in which the CD was about. They are not trying to impress anyone, nor do they care. Thats the reason they disbanded ATDI, tehy were tired of the music indutry telling them what to play.

I know. It doesn't change the fact that the lyrics typically make very little sense. And the fact that the two of them expect you to buy a book to understand seems a bit ludacris to me.

Their lyrics have always been full of shit; I don't think people mind that. They used to call it "stream-of-consciousness," but when you're writing books and creating languages like you're JRR Tolkien it sort of loses its allure. That and the fact that now the music is full of shit too. Moreso the latter.
