well were missing one of these

who do you think is the best vocalist

take into account:
stage presence/showmanship
range
emotion
songwriting

i would have to say the best ive ever heard is jeff buckley
closely followed by cornell and plant

jeff buckley is just amazing, he sings like an angel
his range spans 4 octaves, there isnt anybody more emotional than him imo
his songwriting is good for the kind of music he did
i just love him

That would have to be Kristoffer Garm Rygg of Arcturus.

Chris Cornell is pretty awesome, though.

The three vocalists who had the most influence on me are, in no particular order, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra.

Three disparate styles, but each an awesome example of the concept of the "voice as an instrument".

Charles epitomized- some would say invented- cross-genre vocalizing, faring equally well plying his silky smooth voice in soul, blues, jazz, and country songs.

Sinatra was the essence of technical perfection in pop vocalization. Period.

Cash, well he was in a class by himself. Some would argue that he could not sing a lick, but anyone who truly listens cannot help being moved by the raw emotion in that utterly unique voice- 100% guts.
well said :>

added,
Billy Corgan

Yes

+

Chris Cornell

Also, I might get flamed for this, but for his style of music Usher has an AMAZING voice. No other R&B artist can compare in my opinion.

Another vote for Garm, his operatic vocals on Quick Fix own me.

is Chris Cornell the dude from soundgarden?

edit: oh yeah, Lord Worm. Wouldn't say the best, but definitely the sickest

Robert Plant (zeppelin area not solo, stage presence)
Maynard James Keenan (lyrics alone own, vocals are good)
Axl Rose (premadonna singer but has awesome range and some of the best stage presence, when he showed up)

Veek summed it up for me.

And anyone who would say Johnny Cash can't sing should be clubbed like a baby seal.

Yeah, the "Hurt" video was probably the greatest music video ever made. Who didn't cry or at least tear up when Cash sang it, is not HUMAN
