View Full Version : Official Catacombs Super-Pi

Janus
August 31st, 2005, 08:45 PM
The benchmark used by Super-Pi is one's time to complete and process 1M digits of Pi. This includes from creating initial value to outputting the value.

As stated in the general rules for posting scores here is the general format that I am requesting in order to keep a top10:

Link to modified (with thousandths Super-Pi) CLICKY (http://superpi.radeonx.com/super_pi_mod-1.4.zip)

Score -- Name -- Processor (with Core) -- Speed -- RAM Divider -- Timings ([CasL-tRCD-tRP-tRAS]) -- Videocard -- Speed (if overclocked)
Voltages for both CPU/RAM are optional, but recommended. Everything in bold is available from cpu-z.

Example:

29.782s - Janus - 3700+ San Diego - 2770mhz - 9/10 - 2-2-2-6 - BFG 7800GTX

not bad, but I think you can get 'er down to 32s ;)

you using stock cooling?

Also, I think that running at a higher multi with a lower htt might help you out. Try running 290x9

illskillz
September 1st, 2005, 01:22 AM
Yeah I'm no where near done playing with it, I was doing 2.4 with 9x267 resulting in the same super pi, but just to get 2.4 I need to give it 1.45 volts so I'm not sure I could reach 290x9 :o. For cooling I'm using a CNPS7000A-Cu.

Janus
September 1st, 2005, 10:06 AM
That heatsink should be fine, I would be fine giving my cpu up to 1.65v. If only to test it out for benchmarking, then you could always bump it back down to 1.6v.

stas
September 1st, 2005, 10:30 AM
so im really new to this whole thing. exactly what do i need to enter/do on the super-pi thing as far as the time/checksum?

Janus
September 1st, 2005, 10:34 AM
you don't need to do anything with the checksum, that is only if I wanted to check the validity of your numbers, but not necessary.

I take it you have ran one pass (or more, whatev) I just want you to post your system information along with the final time that is listed (after outputting the amount) and a picture to prove it. An upload to anywhere is fine, I personally use photobucket until I start using my webhost again.

oh and illskillz, you got exactly 36s? Are you using the modded 1.4 version that I posted? It should display in thousandths of a second.

illskillz
September 1st, 2005, 01:15 PM
I haven't downloaded the modded version yet, I'll do that later this afternoon when I get home from work.

edit: and whats the best way you think to raise the voltage? max the voltage to 1.55 then start adding the % of, or just play around with the numbers?

I did see a 1:1 ratio somewhere in the RAM area. is that the RAM divider?

Janus
September 14th, 2005, 12:25 AM
I would hope lower than that really, I mean my full load temps are about 46/47 [on air] (although all motherboard sensor/probe readers can be off by as much as 10C so it is really unfair to compare temperatures). I am hoping to get load temps of the lower 40s with a new watercooling setup that I plan this school year or next summer.

what are these processes you speak of jan? the ones in ctrl-alt-del?

Janus

not bad, i think you should be able to get around 32 if you turn off all other processes and run super-pi at realtime.

Janus
November 2nd, 2005, 06:50 PM
yeah, excess processes in ctrl-alt-del.

hmm, looks like you already have a lot of them shut down. Well, try running it at real-time priority and maybe you can get a small boost. And is that the best OC you can get out of your processor?

illmatiC
November 2nd, 2005, 09:19 PM
2640mhz is my max oc but 2475mhz is the farthest i could push my value ram 1:1.

i bought a used 3700+ sandiego yesterday for $300 and sold my 3500+ newcastle for 210. The guy did 2.97 with it, so hopefully i can get 2.8 atleast.

Janus
November 3rd, 2005, 03:35 PM
wow, I spent less than that on a new sandy. But seeing as he almost got 3.0ghz on it (with AIR?) then it may just be worth it for that. Don't be afraid to run a divider, the increase in clock speeds should outweigh the RAM running at a slightly lower frequency. If not, the change it back, do the tests yourself, no better way really.

thanks Tempest for following the template.

Keep working at the settings, you will get it, also, try to get your processor up a bit. What RAM do you have, you may be able to get some FSB out of it.

I probobly won't push the cpu any higher with my current air cooling. When I was playing around with it I hit a point where it was needing a lot more voltage to get stable at a bit higher clock speed, and it gets pretty warm up in my Computer room. I've seen CPU temperature near 55C with stress testing.

I did have the RAM up to 290 Mhz (with the CPU on a divider) with 2.5-4-4-10 timings once but it was so hot I couldn't touch it for more then a 1/2 second. I've recently installed 2 tiny fans above the RAM so I may try tweaking it again.
