Alright I'm a senior and majoring in Computer Engineering so I have enough credits and a decent GPA to transfer to probably most schools. Now my question to you guys is what are some good schools that have good engineering programs?
If you can link me to the school that would be great.
So far I'm liking Penn State, Iowa State, OSU, and Virgina Tech

pretty boring up here, but someone on the orientation i went to last summer mentioned it being one of the top 10 engineering schools in the country or maybe this region. It has a good engineering program though. I am majoring in Computer Engineering and am a freshman here.

Represent! Virginia Tech is a great engineering school, if you have any questions, let me know and I'll get on irc or something. I'm a CS major, but have quite a few friends in ECE (comp engineering). It's pretty tough here.

I'm a junior in Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech. It's a pretty good program; considering you are a senior, are you just hoping to graduate from a better school than your current one? I'm assuming you intend to stay in Computer Engineering. What kind of timeline are you looking at?

My school's computer engineering program is almost non-existant. I switched to EE instead of ECE this year. I don't know why we offer it since there are so few that actually graduate as ECE. I think there is a total of 1 junior still taking computer engineering and like 2 senior graduating computer engineers. My school only has like 1500 undergrads though.

I've been slacking it, not doing work, and just want to get C's and get out. I plan on staying in the major and I should be looking to graduate either Fall 06 or May 07.

Well, just be aware that different schools have different requirements. For instance, I assume there is some kind of "core" curriculum at your school. You may have to end up taking non-engineering courses to catch up if the ones from your institution don't match up with the other.
Also, here is a general list that seems fairly reasonable:

Penn State is a great engineering school. They've been very good to me, at least (Civil Engineering) -- there's always tons of career and internship fairs going on, and about twice a year they have a fair for Civil major only, which is really nice. I'm sure they do something similar with Computer Engineering. It is pretty fucking cold here, though.

Yeah, the list I posted was for graduate schools.

ok I must be totally missing something
You are a senior at UTEP meaning you have 2 semesters left at the most until graduation, but you are wanting to transfer, which will add on a couple more YEARS until you graduate?

I would imagine that if you're smart enough to get into a top 10 engineering school, your GPA at UTEP should be good enough to do grad school essentially anywhere you want.

In addition to that, it's entirely possible that not all of your credits would transfer, and you would have to take even longer to finish.
Since you're a senior already, finish what you started at UTEP. If you want to go further, then you had better start applying to graduate schools now, so you can get a more advanced degree in your field. This will be far more productive than you wasting time.
Exactly my point.
To add even further to what Una said, if you read the student handbooks for each of those universities, you will find that probably all of them have a limit to the number of credit hours that can transfer. Probably around 60-70 hours at the MAX, which means about 2-2.5 extra years of school AFTER you transfer.
I would HIGHLY recommend against transferring to another university at this point. Do the smart thing and finish what you started and apply for graduate school since you say your GPA is high. It will be much more productive as Una said, and will yield better results.

Auburn University is a great Engineering School. It is also very affordable. I do not know how good the Computer Engineering department is however. We are the first school to offer a Wireless Engineering degree. NASA and other big companies take interest in the graduates from here.

i know a bunch of kids who went to Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh and loved it and it is a great school
Rochester Institute of Technology is a great engineering school (not sure about the Computer engineering part, but it is probably just as good as the others) but the snow is absolutely ridiculous (i almost went there but they require that you sign over your soul in exchange for being enrolled, plus the expense made it un-reasonable)
and Lehigh University in PA is also a great engineering school (again, not sure about the computer part, but it should be just as good)
but all 3 are over $30,000 a year for out of state

No it is the problem. UTEP is a commuter school so I'm around these people 24-7. See, this is what's weird about your situation. You're a senior and you're on the last lap of your undergrad education, and these things are just now starting to affect you. If you transfer, you will lose so much time and money by packing up and moving across the country, and the obvious problem with the equivalency of transfer credits.
I'd suggest you just take a semester off if you need to get your personal life straightened out. But you gotta prioritize, man.

I saw engineering and i got excited. OSU is a great engineering school, though i'm not sure how Prestigious their CS program is, I had virtually a full ride there but chose to come to Cal Poly instead (/gloat) which depending on what ear you hear is one of the best engineering schools in the nation. We have a CS program it is fairly large, the general consensus is-it's great. 'Though there will be a pool of Universities that can offer a great education-see where you get the best deal for you. Weight it all out etc. (advice, apply to imo atleast 5-6)
oops btw im CE, which is more fun and cooler.

If you still live at home and if you work, maybe look into getting your own apartment or get a few friends and rent a house.
I'm just making these suggestions because transferring at this point will seriously make your situation worse, because I honestly almost went down the same road you're thinking about going down. I might add that I am so glad that I didn't transfer, and I was a 2nd semester Junior, not a Senior.

Sorry for off topic but I dont want to make a new thread.
Is it hard to get into UMD as out of state, I'm applying early which is about the best thing I can do. I'm also one of the best soccer players in rochester so I hope that helps. Also what are some good private schools in the MD, VA, NC area cause UMD costs almost as much as a private school.

There are very, very few engineers who compete for the major university teams (i.e. not club or intramural). The time commitment for both is generally too much to balance.

Unless you're being recruited by Maryland, your soccer skills probably won't help you. Maryland has a top 10 soccer team. I don't think Maryland is too difficult to get into out of state, it's like any other major public university.

Honestly, what you are going thru is no worse than any other senior has gone thru, stick it out and finish. The fact is your "problems" will most likely follow you wherever you go so unless you deal withthem, changing schools wont fix it in the end.
