Ok, I recently picked up the Plextor DVD/CD PX-740A burner.

I installed it, had no issues. The computer recognizes it and says there are no issues. Yet when I try and burn something the whole computer locks up around 2% or so. I went online and downloaded the latest Firmware for it. Same thing

So I return it. I'm thinking, just a bad drive, but nooooo the new one days the same thing. It isn't in my computer so I don't know the computer specs right off hand. I could get them if you guys really needed them.

With the information I gave you can you guys think of anything that could be causing the problem?

Any help would be appreciated, their websites suck and I don't want to call a 1-800# yet.

Using the disc's it came with, Nero 6 ultra addition, and as far as power is concerned, I don't know. The previous burner worked just fine.

dunno, almost sounds to me like it doesn't like the disks you are using.. how much memory you got in your machine.. also, you got plenty of cache available on your primary (caching) hd? do a hard disk cleanup and see...

what brand discs?

also try burning at a slower speed and see if that helps.

I know a lot of people have locking up problems with the Nero program. Even I've tried it and it doesn't work properly. I suggest a diff program...cause I've found Nero to be crap for burning.
