Ok so I went ahead and bought the parts I needed. Built one up, works fine.
Second set of parts came in, but are a little different.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GeForce AMD Athlon 64 (nVidia GeForce 6100)
Socket: 939
Processor: AMD Sempron 3100+
Socket: 754
Which should I return for the sockets to match?

if it were me, id rma the cpu then get the correct socket type. would be a peformance boost and more up to date. but if its a money issue, youd prob save a bit by returning the mobo and getting the correct one.

Send the CPU back. Socket 939 is the newest. If it was your fault that you bought the wrong thing, they may not take it back. Just depeneds on what company you used and how long its been since you got it.
