ah, the dark side has bought them out.. From what i can tell, dell has been getting it's butt kicked in all the benchmarking tests, and they want to be able to have braggin rights.. with dell being an intel only shop, that was impossible, since the amd kicks the crap outta the intel chip set right now..

so, they bought the company and will keep it as a wholly-owned subsidiary, is my guess.. just for bragging rights..

Dell = preloaded cpu-raping-ware

I highly unrecommend them.

I think its funny that a company has to "buy out" someone that they cant win against. Dell is alright for laptops and LCD panels. I hate there desktops. Alienware had great laptops, but over priced desktops. Its ok though, Google will buy out both company's before its all over.

Alienware is overpriced, way overpriced. Any good computer shop could match the performance of a high end Alienware box and save you hundreds of dollars. Let Dell have them, I'd never buy a either one.

i always figured it would be best to go to a place that sells laptops so you can actually use them and and see if you like the feel of it. then after that go by sys specs, warranty, and brand.

i dont have one nor have i ever used one, but if i bought one, thats how id go about buying it.

precisely why i am in the business.. i can typically build a unit at about 60% of the alienware price and get similar, if not superior performance for the money.. in regards to any commercial brand, (dell, hp, gateway, etc...), a good white box (generic box) can be made faster, cheaper and a hell of a lot more reliable than anything they can put out.. period.. and, i give a better warranty ( **2** years on hardware) and you get someone that speaks real english helping you out (me)..

I love to go the computer shows and i show up with ONE computer and a table and a stack of cards.. set up my computer and run benchmarks on it, and hand out disks with benchmark tests on the disks and tell people to run them on anyone else's computer in the place.. i always win.. always. And no, I don't overclock them either, i just know how to 'tweak it up' to get max performance..

for one thing, you don't run all those batshit programs that the OEMs put on their machines :D

that's part of it, but all the major manufacturers have bios' that are always set for very conservative settings, and many don't allow overclocking of any type at all.. they are just set for basic factory default, and you can get some more out of them if you know how to tweak the bios. In some cases, you can even reflash the bios with a generic whitebox bios if you know the manufacturer of the main board.. careful though, you can smoke your board with something that doesn't work right and have no way of getting the board back without special equipment (on board bios rom flash kit.. I got a little device that will allow me to connect right to the bios on the board and flash it without having to power up the board.. little invention of mine).. Almost like a bed of nails tester that the manufacturers use..

would be nice, but everyone should really deal with a LOCAL guy if possible.. I **DO** give big discounts to my gamer friends in the area though..

here is an interesting tidbit, speaking of dell..

It's about dell hiring another 10,000 indians to shore up their indian connection..

Dell said its staff numbers in India would rise to 20,000 over the next three years from about 10,000 now. Dell has set up huge business process outsourcing units to tap India's vast pool of low-cost English-speaking workers, as other multinationals such as General Electric have done.

Dell has used India as a base to serve global clients in recent years, but it now considers Asia's third-largest economy a growing market for desktops and laptops as demand for computers surges across the country.

so much for buying american and supporting an american business, eh? hell, we should export a bunch of our mexicans (illegals) to work over there at those factories, would solve a lot of problems all at once, eh? :D

Are you comparing to Alienware's desktops or notebooks?

Cause to build a dell or even an IBM to the specs the Alienware came with, it was so much more money. Reason why I spent so much was because of 500 for a 3 year warranty, 150 for shipping, and 100 for XP Pro. =(
