Comes out tommorow. Hopefully I'll be getting it after I finish my classes. I am definately pumped about this game after reading the 7 page PC gamer review and of course its the sequel to a great game.

Heres a link to the review for those interested:

DAMMIT I just bought 'Galactic Civ 2: Dread Lords' on Saturday even when I knew this is coming out. Now that game's going to rot on the shelf, because the 'Elder Scrolls' games are the most addictive, pleasurable time-sinks outside of the MMO genre. I'll be all over this one on release.

Does anyone know if there's going to be an editor, a'la the Morrowind "TES Construction Set"?

Im trying to find some ingame footage for this. I tried looking on gamespot and didnt see any. Is it basically the same if I look up the morrowind footage? or does someone actually know where I can find some footage of this title? I tried NWN from my gf and I couldnt stand the "controling" of the char, is like that also? just seeing if its worth getting for when im tired and dont feel like doing anything online(besides playing Sims2)

Holy crap it's worse than I'd imagined... just spent 4 hours since installing running around looking at shizz. Didn't even level yet (though I did clear out a bandit dungeon already).

The interface is weak, but I'm already getting used to it. It's too easy to inadvertantly "steal" without meaning to, and the guards are relentless. I've been fined three times already.

I know where the next two months of my life are going...

I grabbed the collector's ed. for the 360 and the guidebook as well. I'm very impressed. OMFG the chargen in and of itself if amazing! I still have yet to start to play, I just played around with faces all night. I will most likely do the same thing I did in Morrowind, be a dark elf assassin, but the wood elf and kahjit are interesting in that class as well.

Oblivion, GRAW and DDO = there goes my life

just bought it last night, awesome game. i may be tempted to upgrade my video card and other items so i can crank the video details up more, game looks really nice.

only thing i dislike about the game so far is how the NPC's voices change when you are talking with them. i noticed that when i went through all of the dialogue options for an npc, the voice wasnt always the same, and it clearly sounded like someone else started talking to you, not the character you started talking to =/

Everyone's already said it, but man, this RPG is sweet.

3200+/1GB PC3200/nVidia 6800GT, as long as I have the grass turned off, it runs very well with everything else turned up, except when there's a bunch of lighting in the area. Its nice how it handles low frames. It doesn't get choppy, it just feels like you have slow reaction.

Next to FF7, this'll probably be one of my favorite RPG's ever. Great gameplay, amazing graphics, and it'll have some replay value.

Recent games have had some impressive graphic tuning options for outdated and future systems. Oblivion and EQ2 are two games I'll probably load backup in a year or two when I get a new computer.

Heh, im at that spot in the main storyline also, but havent done any side quests at all for any guild.

I hit grand champ in the arena though.. a little disappointing, didnt seem like it unlocked anything really. Anyone else know what to do when you get that elf or whatever following you around asking to carry your gear and shit after hitting grand champ?

Anyone else think it's retarded that you can't layer armor over clothing (as you could in Morrowind)? You can't even put robes over armor, it's one or the other, clothes or armor. All the fun of enchanting clothes with 'constant effect's is removed, along with the advantages of layering those effects and abilities.

Otherwise, yeah, best game ever. The multiplicity of gameplay is incredible. Example, my son and I are both playing, and we're at roughly the same level, low teens. I haven't started the main quest yet, I'm just doing Mages/Fighters Guild quests and other random crap. I closed the one gate at Kvatch (YES, I'm that guy, now shut-up about it please), but I'm freaking broke, all the time!! >( I can't save up crap, because I usually never find better than occasional 'silver' weapons. I'll get up to 2500 or so, but end up spending it on training, bribing, repairing, fines, etc etc...

My son, on the other hand, started the main quest, went right for the Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood route, and he's drowning in 'phat lewt'. He's got 6 houses, 3 horses, and exotic arms/armor up the wazoo.

From conversations around the snack pantry it's clear we've done none of the same side-quests at all (though we both intend to try and "cover-the-world" eventually). It's just really sweet how different approaches yield tangibly different results. I'm Joe Sixpack, and he's Tony Montana...

nope, but when you hit Arch-Mage you can have Mage Apprentice's follow you around :D

guess you can have a party like in FF games, just no control over them except to move or wait

I just got the game, but for right now I'm a Redguard Monk (archer/hand-to-hand melee). I like to think of my guy as Muhammad Ali with a bow.

I'm kind of pissed off that they don't have unarmored like they did in Morrowind. But the hand to hand combat is a LOT more effective. Not having to use weapons is a double edged sword (ironic way to put it) because I don't worry about finding the next uber leet sword, but I don't get to benefit from it when I do find it.

Besides, it's more fun beating the shit out of people with my bare hands. Some of the directional power moves are cool too.

Janus
March 27th, 2006, 02:44 PM
Right now I am using a High-Elf Warrior/Elementalist (for the Guildwars folks that would understand that). I tend to stick with destruction spells and have my sword at my side. I am only a level 2 right now just doing side quests, closed the first gate, and am workin on getting into the Mages guild right now.

heres a couple tips that ive found out:
when u do the arena missions in the imperial city, best to have a shield, and health pots. wait till they swing and hit ur shield, they cant put their guard up after hittin ur shield right away so u can go for a nice power attack, and health potions u can use while in combat and it pauses so if u got enough u should never die in most stages of the arena (if ur a fighter that is)

U can kinda teleport usin the map in certain area's, save ya from riding/walking all that way. it will either say u can do it or not, u cant tele if ur in a house, and cant tele into houses, but like city gates, or alot of other places u can tele right to, i dunno about distance, same with caves and ruins, u cant tele while inside, but u can tele outside, and u can tele back to cave outside the fd of it

Leg told me this 1: to kill the spirits, u need to use some sort of silver weapon or magic, i was tryin to kill them with a steel sword, wont work

im an imperial knight

March 28th, 2006, 06:17 AM
i think the only way to get kicked out of any of the guilds is if you do something to piss off one of the members. steal from them, beat 'em up, etc.

more small tips:
join the thieves guild, especially if you're having money problems. after you've done only a quest or two for them, they give you access to a fence so you can sell stolen property. steal whatever you can (don't get caught, durr) and you can nickel and dime your way to a respectable amount of money.

get a spell that opens locks. the cat who hates you in the dark brotherhood sanctuary sells one that requires no alteration skill and only uses ~10 magicka. it saves lockpicks and makes stealing stuff easier.

kno[x]
March 28th, 2006, 11:59 AM
Or do the Shrine of Nocturnal (level 10) and get the Skeleton Key. Lockpick that never breaks, adds +40 security, and no tumbles fall regardless of skill, unless it is a Very Hard lock, which only the 4th tumble will fall.

I've already completed the Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Arena, and most of the Fighters Guild. Making a Thieves Guild character today.

Oh yeah, aside from that, what are all the factions? Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild, Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood......is there anything else?

March 28th, 2006, 04:15 PM
You have to speak to the beggar in the Imperial City Waterfront, moniker. After a little bribing he tells you where and when to meet to get a chance at joining the Theives Guild. And yeah, shit, you guys are fucking fast. I'm only level 6 right now.

Edit: So far from what I've found, other than The Blades and The Arena, those are the only factions.

Minor vampire/main story spoilage within, beware.

Yeah, I got turned into a vampire today. At first I tried curing it but, given my guy's playing style (lawful Warrior type) I wasn't able to get even close to cured (was gathering Grand Soul Stones) by the time I hit 100% vampire, and then nobody would even talk to me ("you won't drink my blood!"). So I just said fuck it and loaded my save game from before I got infected.

Which brings up the story of HOW I got infected. So I started the game like most others and went along the main story line. I saved Kvatch, closed an Oblivion gate, found the Emperor's bastard son, and got to the point where I needed to meet somebody from the Mystic Dawn in the Imperial City's sewers. At that point I deviated and started doing everything but the main story, getting into the Fighter's guild, getting a horse and house in Anvil, and doing a ton of random quests from the different cities. I start doing Arena matches, and after hearing the Grey Prince's story I get sent to this place near Anvil with vampires. After I kill Lord Lovidicus and am cleaning out some side rooms, Baurus, the Redguard bro who you made contact with in the Inn in Imperial City, finds me and beckons me to follow him to continue along the main quest line. I say screw you and go about my own business. At a point later, I realize that in order to continue along the main quest line I have to go BACK to this now-repopulated Vampire den to find him and follow him back to the Imperial City sewers. While I'm doing this, I get bitten, and can't cure the disease before I go Vampiric. While I'm frantically running around Cyrodil trying to cure my Vampirism, Baurus is slowly walking all the from Anvil back to Imperial city to "escort" me to the sewers. Kinda fucked up.

made an assn

do darkbrotherhood quest as soon as possible to get good armor and weapons a place to rest and a supply of lockpicks. (best part of game for me)

beat arena as soon as possible cause then you get 2800 g everytime you win after you beat gray prince.

thieves guild is nice to join but you dont really need to get highest rank soon unless you are stealing stuff to make money. just get in it to use the pay off bounty stuff for half price.( i hated this faction)

leveling stealth and marksman makes the game so easy especially with some chameleon rings. i pretty much just ran through the oblivion portals stealthed.

The Fighters Guild is much more rewarding than any of the other guilds. If you spread the quests out to where you become Master at ~Level 15, you can make over 50k by selling enchanted items you find in quests (you will find assloads of enchanted items, mainly because most mobs in the this questline aren't beasts) and you can get Full Elven/Ebony as well due to level scaling.

Yeah, I wasn't really down for the whole Vampirism thing to begin with, but I decided I would truck it out and try to get it cured. I don't remember how but somehow I got into a fight after I went full Vampire and died, and I hadn't saved it since before infection. I may explore the whole Vampirism later on or maybe with another character.

On a side note, when I was leaving Bravil earlier today I got my Mage's Guild (that I was just joining as a level 11 Barbarian, harhar) key revoked because it said I stole from them, when I hadn't stolen anything (I went through my inventory and everything, didn't pick any locks either). Did the game bug out and falsely accuse me or is this some side-story thing?

Haha hell yeah Veek I hear you about the physics engine, the manipulation tool for arranging shit is pretty bad for anything but arranging corpses in to humorous positions. I've been trying like hell to fill my Skingrad house with books and armor displays but it's time-consuming, I'll often catch myself looking at the game clock and seeing it's midnight when I can't really talk to any NPC's (lawful good character, mostly), so I'll go to my house to burn some time and find myself there at the same time next day.

I'd guess that a big part of the reason my hour to level ratio is lower is because I pretty much fast travel everywhere, though I just rode my horse to a fort yesterday instead and rather enjoyed it and the encounters, might start doing it more. Shame I havn't really considered it until finishing so much of the content, lol.

I was talking to the guy across the hall who plays and we agreed that the ability to have limited multi-player, sharing a persistent world with a few other guys, could be fun as hell. He has a lawful good character that would likely adventure with mine, but his roommate has a thief that we'd likely meet up with against and have to fight. I'm sure the whole levelled design of the game could easily be applied to co-op, either making monsters stronger or more numerous.

man i've logged a shitload of hours, just not on the main quest. Hell, i haven't even gone to the monastery yet. Mostly been increasing my alchemy, acrobatics, athletics, and blade. I keep making potions, then sell them to make dollaz. Dollaz buy armor, which then gets worn for about two hours until i've made enough potions to upgrade again...

I started fighting in the arena, and just finished my first Brawler fight. First one where i actually needed the potions i was making :D

I'm still only a lvl 2 redguard (custom class = Shaft) with a warrior birthsign...i really don't know how to explain my character like all you guys are doing. Hell, i didn't even know i wasn't wearing any pants until about 8 hours into the game. But i got a light-skinned black dude with an afro so i just made it bigger and named him HueyFreeman.

anyway i've upgraded every armor/weapon i have to steel, and have yet to embark upon my main quest. I keep reading that the enemies level up with you, so i figured it would be best to have the best equipment possible. Now i just need to make more potion and start up the main quest

and picking locks is hard as shit to do manually.

Rugdumph's sword, in addition to having a funny effect, also has a cool and unique look I like. It's on display in my Skingrad house.

If that quest total is right I've done about half on my dude, and I've got 20 more in my active quest log waiting to be completed. One thing I think ya gotta keep in mind is that if you're playing a mostly lawful character, like I did, you don't get to do any of the Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood stuff, which I'd imagine cuts out a big chunk of available quests.

Right now I'm just growing tired of a lot of game dynamics. I'd like to try a thief-style character but, like I said, not until the mod community has some time to freshen some things up in the game.

For one, I'd really like to see a complete reinterpretation of how NPC's are armed and what they drop based on levels (I know there are some mods out there that do that, I don't like much of what's available). The armor progression is too fast, and way too much shit drops every time you go into a cave/fort/whatever at higher levels. It isn't at all uncommon for me to kill three bandits and have them all wearing full sets of Daedric armor with Daedric weapons, which is just silly. Because of this and the frequency of magical drops, making money at levels 20+ is a complete joke. My guy hasn't been below $200,000 in over a week, I own every horse and every house (fully-furnished) in the game, and I keep a significant portion of the armor/weapons I get to fill up all of my empty houses. I don't think this game should be an item grind by any means, but once you hit magical level 20 the game gives you the VERY clear hint that you should be finishing up.

There is also room for a lot more armor, shields, and weapons in general. A lot of variety, not necessarily of the linear sort, could be added this way.

You got any bones with the game Veek?

As you know, for reasons known only to themselves, BethSoft has seen fit to hobble control functionality and not allow (re-)binding any of the mouse buttons. Since the original Half-Life came out (and possibly before) I've used the mouse2 button for jumping in ALL FPS games, period. My compromise was to bind JUMP to f12, which is "intellimouse-bound" to button5 on my mouse, but after playing days of Oblivion the few times I've played TFC have been disastrous, as that is my comms button. So that's my biggest complaint...

The GUI is a joke, and I'm in agreement with the hoardes who rail that it's obviously a sop to the console side of the product. I've installed the BT Mod, which makes it a tad more tolerable, but barely.

Also agree the item-levelling is futzed, but- like you- I've avoided all of the MODs for that because of the sheer number of changes involved to the core data files and the possibility of game-breaking by installing any.

Not being able to wear clothes and armor simultaneously is goofy. Give me my enchanted britches back! Oh, and "enchanting" itself is also hobbled, apparently, though I haven't delved into it too deeply myself.

I miss levitation, but I understand why they couldn't include it.

Otherwise, I've got no qualms with it. I'm really looking forward to what the MOD community will produce down the road; there's already a plethora of really nice enhancements out there, I'm running about a dozen already. And on the official boards there was recently a post by a Mod that seems to indicate that there will be a model importer (after Beth clears up licensing stuff with Havok), so actual new community-made content should be in the pipeline soon!

The UI is straight-up console, no doubt. The inability to bind any key on the keyboard to use spells/armor/weapons is pretty damned annoying to me too. I've installed BTmod as well to curtail a lot of the XBox-sized UI elements.

I started a new ranged/stealth type character yesterday with Oscuro's Overhaul (http://www.tescreens.be/oblivionmodwiki/index.php/Oscuro's_Oblivion_Overhaul) and AFLevelMod (http://fuzionmedia.com/oblivion/) installed, seeing how I like it. I like the levelmod a lot, Oscuro's I havn't been able to pass judgement on yet. Also saw this mod (http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2876) and have been thinking about trying it, might be fun with my Barbarian.

Levetation and wearing clothes under armor is, I guess, something from Morrowind that I'm not entirely familiar with, never played the game.

I imagine you could probably sell an item to a fence and then buy it back at around 150% and the item would no longer be marked as stolen. And I have to agree about the layering of clothing, it's especially annoying as it seems enemy npcs are allowed to do so. I can't even begin to count the amount of times I've run into a bandit that's magically been sporting glass armor under his or her clothing.

dude so i go to sleep to get lvl 7, and wtf, i get a note that says "a dark shawdow comes into your room, and FUCKING BITES YOU RAWWR" "YOURE A VAMPIRE NOW FUCKING DIE" gfg now igotta do the damn quest.. or is it fun being a vampire and feeding on people? pros/cons?

if you're famous, you can go pray at the chapel in the imperial city and i believe that heals you

other than that, i think you gotta talk to a priest or healer about "curing vampirism" and you get sent on a long-ass quest. This, of course, sucks major ass because you can only do it once you're a full-blown vampire (not just "infected"), and a full blown vampire doesn't enjoy the sun that much. Have fun. Talk to some guy at the arcane university to initiate it, then just follow the yellow brick road that they lay out for you. I suggest having an assload of money so you can buy the five Grand Soul Gems required and get the first part of the long ass trip out of the way. Bring those back and you get the rest of your quest (garlic, bloodgrass, nightshade, argonian blood and the ashes of a powerful vampire) and then the witch that gave you this lovely shopping list brews up some crunk shit that cures what ails ya. Good thing is, if you get infected again, you dont have to do all this shit. Bad thing is, you still have to do it in the first place

brought to you by the j987564 page guidebook.

I've finally gotten a pretty good grip on the game mechanics and stuff...still have unanswered questions, but at least i know how everything works, what can and can't be done, etc...

for the bruma quest, you don't need to close all the gates before the super extra ultra one. i did for about two cities before i said "fuck it" and continued the story anyways. i "lost" a lot of men (jauffre and baurus died in the first minute, hello two sets of blades gear) and the only way i was able to survive was by luring all the daedra away, doing a u-turn, and running in the gate with a good seven daedra trailing me.

but once i got in, i learned the easy way to beat the gates: run, god damnit. you only need the stone at the top of the tower and you're safe as soon as you get it. you don't need to kill anything, much less everything. if you're wearing light armor and maybe some speed enhancing gear, you can just run right to the top of the tower and take the stone. use fountains and invisibility/chameleon scrolls as necessary.

one of my few beefs with the game is that enemies don't level up their tactics, only their gear. most animals are cake once you learn their attack patterns. zombies telegraph and follow-up with a phone call before they attack. humanoid melee characters are a snap if you're willing to take some damage blocking a few normal melee attacks; it doesn't matter if they have magic attacks, since their skill is probably so low it won't make a difference. maybe it's because i've gotten lucky with my gear or something, but the only time i don't have clean fights are when there isn't enough space (which is rare) or when i'm fighting goblins, since they don't give a shit. granted, i'm only in the mid-20's, so maybe things change with later enemies.

I think its fun being a vampire, i feed on people so ill be able to stay alive in the sun for 24hrs. I didnt bother doing the quest to heal myself. You get different abilities as a vampire, one i used alot in dungeons called HunterSight, brightens the whole room and lets you see enemies behind the walls/doors etc etc.

You become a vampire by contracting Poryphoric Hemophylia, a disease that can be cured with a Cure Disease potion or by praying at a church. If you don't get it cured within 3 days or by the next time you sleep (whichever comes first) you get the message box that pops up informing you that you are now a Vampire. I can barely ever clear out a vampire den without getting bitten at least once.

Once you get Vampirism, you get the ability to feed. Feeding keeps you normal-looking and curtails advancement into more developed stages of Vampirism. The longer you go without feeding, the uglier, more powerful, and more sun-vulnerable you become. It's an interesting gameplay dynamic, I've been toying with the idea of doing it on my new thief character.

Getting Vampirism cured is a real bitch of a quest. I tried it on my Barbarian only to get frustrated and load my last save game before I got infected.

From what I hear it's pretty hard to get your named NPC buddies like Jauffre, Baurus, and Captain Steffan to survive the final stages of the main quest unless you do it at a low difficulty or at an early level. The Great Gate itself is a breeze, especially if you've spent much time in Oblivion and have the general pattern of gates down. You make your way up to the big tower, usually by fighting up to the Tower Portal door, or by taking a side-tower closer. The most complicated gate I closed on my Barbarian required skipping between 3 different towers to extend bridges to get to the top of the big tower.

You can get an item unflagged as stolen by selling it and buying it back from a fence. Alternatively, I found out tonight that you can unflag a piece of stolen armor by wearing it when you go to jail. When you pop out it will be in your inventory unmarked.

Does wearing jewlry/ weapon work the same way?

Somehow I got a dagger to unflag, but I don't know what I did. I just remember that I stole it and a while later I looked in my inventory and it was unflagged.

That MOB MOD looks cool, in conjunction with a decent levelling mod it might rawk.

However I'm growing more skittish by the day; I've had a few mods "break" or act up lately, it's getting really annoying. And it's not conflicts from new mods being added, as I've added none in over a week. They just break all on their own...

Might have to wipe it clean and start from scratch with just the ones I really want, after I finish finally.

Veek if you're concerned about mods conflicting I'd recommend Oblivion Mod Manager (http://www.tessource.net/files/file.php?id=2097) to you. I used it to solve some problems I was having.

Do they have TES for Oblivion? You can clean mods with that as well.

I've got the MOD Conflict Detector, and it shows no conflicts for the MODS that are breaking... :(

Kinda spoiling kinda not?

Armorer ftw.

Be part of mages guild. Custom spell -> disintegrate armor Mag 100 (Or less if u don't have 75 destro)

Destroy your armor, repair. Rinse, repeat.

I am so happy I thought of this. Maybe I am behind the times I don't know. However, my armorer went from 17 to 50. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i've got mercantile, intelligence, alchemy, athletics, acrobatics, and armorer stacked, even though armorer is the only one thats a major skill. I just like an agile guy that can beat the living shit out of somebody and not break a sweat (my redguard warrior)

I bought all kinds of scrolls and awesome blades and shields by looting fighters guild and mages guild halls, with more money from the mages guild because of no imitation weapons in their glass cases. Also, i would pick up books until i was almost over-encumbered, go to a bookstore (renoit's to be exact) and sold ALL of them, which made my mercantile fly through the fuckin' roof. Once that happens not only do you haggle much better, you can sell ANYTHING, even if its useless shit like tongs and calipers and whatnot. Money money money.

I find money makes this game wayyyy easier than it should be, but hey, i earned it :D

Well I just recently finished doing the last of the main quest and I'm leading all the guilds, I was expecting a lot more extra content, I know there will be mods and stuff but the actual game feels unfinished. But it really does leave you wanting more :( Only one hidden boss and no new equipment to find after lvl 25 or something.

oh and I did all the daedric shrines too :\ anyone else feel this way once they got to to this point?

Just finished the main quest on my third character, yawn.

I play on a AMD 2.2GHz, 2GB PC3200 memory, 7800GT video and just use the auto-set "ultra high" quality setting. Runs smoothly most of the time except in some clogged outdoor areas.

p4 3.06ghz w/2mb l2 cache
1 gb ram
geforce 6800 GS OC'd like a motherfucker (in addition to the "out of the box" OCing)
audigy4
7800rpm sata 80gb drive

not really spectacular, but the auto-setting is "high" and it maintains 30 fps at the very least, so i'm psyched that i get to see most of the good shit.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but I have a question.

I have a bounty of 7676 gold and I obivously dont have that much gold to pay it off with (I'm level 6, been playing for under 10 hrs i believe). So everytime I see a guard or go into a city I am always confronted. I just want to know, is there any way I can get rid of my bounty without going to Jail? I guess what I am asking, is there an easy way to get gold to get rid of this annoying as hell bounty? It sucks especially because I am constantly running through cities with at least 5 guys after me, which pretty much rules out most of the city life/quests. Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I am playing the xbox 360 game, so I dont know if that would make a difference or not.

join the thieves guild and they will pay off your bounty for half. cant remember if having a bounty makes joining harder.

or you can loot all the caves, mines, forts and such until you get enough gold. you can sell all the stuff you find, but thats hard since you have to go to a town to do that (unless theres a merchant outside somewhere i dont know about).

going to jail really isnt that bad. you keep 1 lock pick to escape if you want, otherwise you just sleep off your sentence and lose a couple skill points.

I just hate the idea that my char is going to waste away in jail. My character somehow got turned into a vampire (I have no clue how I got the disease).
