Looking into getting new DVD player since mine has about bit the dust. Was initially looking at LG LDA-511 since it upconverts to 1080i over component and HDMI..... I am using a Toshiba 36AF43 CRT which only has component hookups and the manual says it won't accept 480p or 720p progressive scan signals or 1080i hd signals. Is using this player a mute point since it says the TV won't accept anything but the 480i signals?

Basically...yes
This old sorry but I just noticed it. If you havent bought a DVD player yet, buy the new Sony DVP55 (too lazy to look at my notes on it -- I'm a Home Theatre salesman). The LG LDA-530 is also a good one -- with DivX support. If your TV has component video, try using component cables and see how it looks. If it doesn't, get a new TV :D

i would just get a 30-50 dollar dvd player for now, especially since your tv is pretty basic. then if you want one with all the goods, wait til hd-dvd/bluray becomes somewhat of the norm. im sure those will be a few hundred bucks though.
