View Full Version : UGC 2v2 league
Synergy

Were looking at opening up the 2v2 league in UGC once again, it will be a much more relaxed match experience then allowed in any current league. We have everything set to go once we get a match day and time figured out theres currently a poll going on in ugc forums linked here (http://www.ugcleague.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6639) . Once we get the concensus of the community for a good day and time we will launch the new league.
As for maps we have all the main 2v maps, but any suggestions would be much appriecated as we all know how the same maps time after time can become cumbersome, Any maps suggested will be play tested by myself and other admins.

<[VOO]SlimBrady> you shouldnt really set a concrete time for a 2v2 league
<Peachy> just trying to get ideas about interest other than yours

a 2v2 league? Again?
I might have to respect people who play 2v2s all day long and win. :(
Sounds like a good idea though. Different kinds of play are always fun to different kinds of people.
What ever you do, make sure the map rotation is more than the same ass boring 2v2 maps that people always play. I know tfl-2v2 had some crazy maps i never heard of, like emit_r

Rgr, thats why i am asking for map names. Like i said the I have all the normal ones a couple new ones and am still asking for more. Would people like slightly larger maps for the 2v2..... The league is only limited by the suggestions we get. The more suggestions the more interactive it becomes with the community this league will be made by the community for it. So please suggest away, pick a day in the poll. Sooner this is done the sooner it will launch.
I also have a few more ideas, that i think will help the community out as well, being i know everyone likes a lil fun competion, So lets get to chatting guys

Nice map bro, however that would definetly qualify as way to big for a 2v2, however i have givein it to some other admins for the larger leagues.

Set a deadline for a match, and the suggested date/time. Be open to allow the 2v teams to reschedule. I think too many rules would ruin a 2v.

bust out with some CablesTFC, since its not being used for a 5v5 map, might as well throw it in the hat for 2v2.

There was one 2v2 map UGC ran a long time ago when I played in UGC. I forget it's name. It was actually quite good.
It was fairly glitchy, but not awful.
It was really small, obviously, the yard was just a big two sloped pointy sandy hill.
The flag was in this room with a bunch of gray boxes, on a slight platform. The flagroom was at the very bottom of a pretty long ramp.

I'm sure you could browse through the 2v2 match results once that portion of the site reappears (if this thing works out). There weren't many seasons so it shouldn't take too long to find.
Edit: Apparently Pad was uploading the page while I was typing this post.

I had nothing better to do so I figured I'd go through the seasons/weeks and list the maps that were played, in case anyone else was also interested, or something.
Edit: You can click the map to see that week's results page.
At first it didn't seem like there was really that much variety in the mapcycle, since the same old favorites kept coming back every season with only a few new maps being added. On the other hand, a few of the seasons had more than 5 uncommon maps, so that was cool. It would probably get kind of obnoxious to play weird new maps every week, I suppose.
What about a 2:1 old/common maps to new/uncommon maps ratio? Approximately a third of the mapcycle would be maps that haven't been played so much that everyone's memorized all the routes and concs etc.

Not to get off topic but ...
Jarek does templar still have the bug involving capping one of the flags? I've considered it for UGC 5v but wasnt sure if it had been fixed. I personally never had any problems with it but others that tested it said they couldnt cap one of the flags.

I hear there has been some worries bout division balancing, There will be balancing done within the ladder once we get a fully active. Only when we get a full ladder going will we beable to weed out the skill levels and place them The Teams within the divison they fit into.

i will look into it this week as i am on vacation from work, also i will most likely get a beta of my 9v9 map and possibly release an alpha of a new map to any interested... if real life doesnt rape me this week that is :)
edit: yes templar just had a misdirected string in the goal numbers, so that red team could only cap once as the cap would not reset. i will fix this asap... but also i am going to rework the spawn to make the map... more interesting.

As for any new maps guys, All u map makers go ahead and make maps for the league. They will be play tested by the community for it, So why not make some new maps. I would welcome 3-4 new maps to the community for this; suggestions
Xpress2k4--type map alot love this map, while equally alot dislike it, poll the masses and see what they would like see fixed and or changed on a map like this.
^^^Well hell thats the only thing I can think of currently from just getting up, So all u community people chime in put suggestions down for map makers, We all like the old maps, but i know we all yearn for some NEW good ones.

I'd definitely be interested!
Once this semester's over (I've got a few weeks left, then finals) I'm gonna re-apply for gather admin and try to run constant gathers until I get burnt out or carpal tunnel sets in, and having some uncommon maps to check out would keep things exciting :)
That's plan A, anyways ;x

Bump for this -- 20 teams now.
Just played a match -- it took 3 rounds and 2 nights, but it was fun.
No real weird rules, 1 mirv (good), and everything else is sorta just whatever, normal 2v2 style
Friday is the official night, but its only 1 round of a 2v2 (15 mins O and 15 mins D) so you can pretty much play it whenever.
Maybe if enough teams join I'll talk MrSparkle into making it a challenge ladder or something :D
