I'm thinking about joining a class of krav maga and I was wondering if anyone has ever taken krav maga. Its basically the israeli defense forces self defense system that relies on instinctive movements. its being taught more and more in the US especially for law enforcement. since im in cop school here in quebec i thought it would be awesome to learn it to complement the training i receive in my self defense classes. I was thinking either krav maga or brasilien jiu jitsu since a fight almost always ends up on the ground.

anyway im rambling so im just wondering if anyone has done krav maga and their take on it.

http://www.kravmaga.com/krav01.html if anyone is curious about it

For stand up fighting where your not going to kill your opponent there are better Disciplines to learn, KM is very good in teaching disarmament (sp?) though which would be helpful in your line of work. In a situation where a fight has gone to the ground your better off with BJJ although in a street fight situation that can be dangerous because groups of ppl dont often just 'watch' a friend get subbed or choked and will commence cheap shots more often than not.

i would say the jiu jitsu would be better for you as far as cop training goes because of the whole police brutality thing, you arent looking to fight really, more grapple and detain but the other one looks cool too

i bet it would be cheaper to buy a nice tazer than to pay for combat training.

hell, my tazer has a range of 100ft with detachable cables. its perfect for driving by bad drivers and shooting them in the face/neck area with 100,000 volts.
