Actually I think what happens is you have 4090 and you add 10 and you are picturing 4900 in your head and you know that the 1 and the 9 should be in the same 'column' so you assume the 9 turns to a 0 and thus the 4 to a 5 when you carry the 1.

So you originally think 4090 but when you go to add it you think 4900.

Oh and I got all 4 of these right. For the 100th time.

Yeah, #1 is worded badly. I took it to mean a two-person race and got it wrong. When I read #2 I immediately pictured myself jumping into a Special Olympics tard race and zooming past the fat kid, so I missed that one too.

+1. Good reasoning since the answer would have to be "the question is invalid" otherwise, and that's always a retarded answer for these kind of problems. It feels like you've been cheated if thats the actual answer that they're looking for. Just one small correction that's pretty obvious but it was just bugging me - clearly you don't have to be in first place to lap someone, you could also be second or even second to last and still lap the last guy. So I guess all you can really say is "I'm not last". As for the author who wrote that question: BAH2U SIR, bah2u. I can just see him now...
