Ventrilo problem

I'm on a brand new laptop. I plugged in my headset (mic into input and headphones into output). Unlike my last computer (whch wasnt nearly as good) my vent freezes and comp lags for a few secs when i click setup in Ventrilo before opening it. Then when i click close it lags again. It doesnt make sense because this computer is alot faster than my old one.

try setting a low priority on it in task manager

Hmm, when I try to do it and "x" out of task manager, I go back and it looks like its been set back to Normal priority. I dont understand why it would freeze like this, Im on a brand new comp that's pretty good.
