Hard drive problem is what it looks like. I would try to get into the computer and run chkdsk or "repair" the OS.

either the hard disk has died, or the operating system is erased.. get a boot disk or a boot cd and try to see what is going on .. barts boot cd is a good one to use for this..

again, my guess is that the hard disk is a goner.. if you have access to it, you may want to reseat or reattach the ribbon connector to it.. sometimes (rarely) this may fix the problem..

bottom line: this ain't looking good bud.. if i were a betting man, i would say it's time to go get a new hard disk..

btw, i got a used 60 gig in here in the shop for 50bux.. plus shipping.. 2.5 hard disk if you need it..

this hard disk is a:

toshiba 60 gig.. came out of a smoked compaq laptop..

model # mk6021gas

nowhere on the toshiba site does it mention actual rotational speed.. however, it is ata-5 compatible, and supports 100mb/sec transfers.. this hard disk has been put into a desktop using a 2.5-3.5 inch adapter and fdisked and reformatted to check for errors.. i even ran the toshiba hard disk utilities on it and there are zero errors..

50 bux plus shipping.. maybe7-8 bux for that.. guessing..
