Like so many other stories begin, I awoke one morning to find that my computer had reset itself. Now, whenever I plug a usb device in windows just pops up a message saying "Usb device not recognized," no matter what it is. I've tried my hard drives, ipod, printer and they all come up like that. I tried all the ports and they all do the same. I'm just wondering if anyone has seen this and if its a software issue or if the ports are just fried.
The motherboard is a Asus a7n8x deluxe if that helps at all.

probably software..
go to your control panel, device manager.. and delete the usb ports.. everything under there and re-boot .. let the computer reinstall all the ports..
this is common.. and usually just reinstalling and redetecting the usb ports will fix this problem 75% of the time.. make sure everything is disconnected from the usb ports when you do this, joysticks, printers, cams, etc...

I tried that and unfortunately it didn't work.
The really weird thing is i just plugged my keyboard/mouse in through usb and they were fine. At least I know now that this is a software problem.
I should probably add that I just tested the harddrive in another computer and it works fine.

The problem has been fixed.
I was doing some more research and I came across someone saying to let the computer drain of all power and it should fix it. So I turned the computer off and left it unplugged for a few minutes. I almost shit myself when I turned it back on and everything was fine.
I'm just glad it worked.
