Yes.

You guys are just looking at the small things. What if everyone went out side and surronded the police and started to ring their phones. What if there is a shootout and you have civilians running in between, doing backflipps and taking pictures at the same time. Freedom can only go so far.

....lol jking. I hope those Policemen get fired, though I doubt it.

A family friend is a freelance cameraman, and he was in texas working the NBA finals. One afternoon he had nothing to do so he went out to some small town to film some stock footage of a train cutting through the wilderness. As the train approached it blew it horn and came to a stop. He waved to the train to show that he wasnt on the tracks, but it didnt move. Five minutes later two cops come booking down the tracks and they wanted to take him into the station for "suspicious activity" or something similar. Its out of control

During the Jewish riots in Brooklyn, my roomie and I took pictures. The police even posed, so I'm assuming this is very contingent on the individual cop's attitude. I don't see any reason why it should be illegal unless it is distracting or thwarting the police from their jobs. Keeping a camera happy can be a good way to keep people honest.

The Jew Riots:

Apparently, some police pulled over an elderly Jewish man and were a little rough on him. Word got out in the community that the police were roughing up a Jewish guy.

I read this last week and thought it was fake at first. Then I found out it was real. Why would the cops arrest someone taking a picture unless the cops were doing something they didn't want photographic proof of?

when people aren't criminals you need to invent new crimes for job security.

if the news agencies had aired the full footage like they should have the whole mess wouldn't have begun. some idiot had to air only the part when the cops attacked.

He did start it, i'll agree with you on that one. They still didn't need to kick the shit out him like they did.
I don't think race played as much of a part as people (LA riots) would like to think. Watch the whole tape and tell me a white dude wouldn't have gotten his ass beat down. I'll laugh in your face (over the intarweb) if you dare to suggest such nonsense.

"There is no law that prevents people from taking pictures of what anybody can see on the street," said Larry Frankel of the American Civil Liberties Union.

no, but I have a feeling if they showed the whole thing there is no way he could have been called a victim after all he did.

Who calls him a victim? I thought we universally referred to him as "motorist" Rodney King...

there are laws prohibiting you from taking pictures and video of trains without permission. they've been in effect for some time.

any cameraman or photographer should have known about them.

Train Pain.

Big Brother now says I can't shampoo my hair after I use commercial plane transportation. How soon to other freedom of movement restrictions?

"Oh, you dumb, dumb cops. Of course Neftaly Cruz was "not on his property" during the arrest if you went onto his property and dragged him off! Why would you do that in front of witnesses?"

lol..
