This forum needed another thread, I look here every day thinking "todays going to be the day something new turns up", and it's the same 3 threads. So to keep my last hair from falling out, we get this.

For those of you who like the new look of TF2, what are you hoping for in the game? Do you want play style thats a bit whackey, so when you cb someone it drives them into the ground like a cartoon? Or do you just want a cool looking TFC?

Throw me a few bones here, I'm old and have nothing else to live for.

A unique fortress-style game. Oh, and a large community.

I saw something on Steam's news a couple of days ago saying that there should be something new on TF2 later this coming week. I don't know if that means screen shots, or another video. In fact, I can't find the news anymore to paste into the thread. :(

Leipzig game conference. Or something. EA has a 45-minute slot and valve has said they're doing stuff for it.

Around Valve these days, the Leipzig Games Convention is the focus of everyone working on Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. Coming out of next week we'll be releasing some of the new footage for everyone to see.

and lol trolls.

I am hoping that the FF team's work isn't in vein, either. I am hoping that the resulting game reflects TFC with some tweaks and maybe a gadget or two, but isn't the bhopping/mousewheel/dll thing that some players expect it to be in every pub that they come across.

I also hope that it isn't in vain. I hope to get to know it, enjoy it, and not get 'pwned' by it. If it has scouts bhopping easily by like on a bhop hook server, then it will die, imho. I hope that it will create interest in other STEAM players that download it, and say, "Hey, this is a cool game."

GL to the FF team from a very interested party.

Fact is, TF2 being good would be better for Fortress in the long run than TF2 being bad. More people will play TF2, see. It's an official game and will be listed in Steam by default. It will get to a much larger audience than FF ever will, even if FF is fantastic and TF2 is terrible. I value the Fortress gameplay more than I value any particular iteration of it (I was an alpha tester for Q3F, that didn't go well), so I would like to see a TF2 that will offer quality clan-play and longevity, simply because that will keep the game alive longer.

Odd that some of you want a game we don't know anything about to be bad thinking that that will somehow help another game we know nothing about.

It seems to me that TF2 and FF will stand on their own. The only way TF2 can sink FF is if FF stinks. Also, why does everyone think it has to be either or? Can't both games do well? I would think that if TF2 is a great game, some of those players might want to try FF.

I hope TF2 is fast, plays well, has crazy physics so we get big jumps and at least some air controll. I also hope they lock down scripts and all the exploits that ruined TFC. I want a game thats pretty easy to learn, but takes some time to master, and I want everyone to have access to all the same tricks that give you an edge.

as much as I support the FF team and all their efforts to make something to give back to themselves and the community.

I still hope both games get the recognition they deserve and the player base grows in such an amount that we can have some good style league play for years to come.

TFC has been a way of life for some.
TFC has been a way to Travel / game / lan / Socialize.
TFC has been a game we call "Home" no matter what comes out.

I think everyone here knows what I mean when I say "Home" how many games have you picked up and played beat and then tossed to the side but always came back to TFC.

Valve wotn give us shit they never have, maybe time frame etc.. ya they blow donkey dick but overall Valve has produced what we wanted or stuck with. Everyone who says OMG CARTOONS ur a fool and an idiot custom models etc.. has been such a large desire you honestly think those models will be the END ALL BE ALL there is ? no so don't worry we will have what we want and this time we got 2 choices which makes our odds for something great even better.

TF2 - The most anticipated game of the last 7 yrs.
FF - The most anticipated game of this last year.

goodluck to both I say and Thank you to those involved Much respect!

I want a large community full of new players with fresh ideas. I really don't want a new game with roughly the same old community I got tired of a couple years ago.

exactly how I feel ! ff is going to have a major "im more elite than U" community which will inevitabley be the reason it suffers a quick death. I feel TF2 is the definate winner here, but I'll give my true opinion after I play both.

I really hope that doesn't happen, a little of that attitude, and a few hidden tweaks or tricks will put FF on the shelf next to ETF.

I know the people over at FF are trying to have that not happen. However, a large portion of the fan base waiting for FF comes from this community. That means at launch a good number of players will already know what they are doing for the most part. I just hope this doesn't scare away new players.

I want to be proved wrong and have 2 successful fortress games.

that seems to happen to a lot of games. theres a few rape players in a server and no one else stands a chance so they quit.
tweaks or no tweaks, skill is skill, so it cant be helped.

That's exactly what killed Soldner.

I guess I understand why people think new players will get scared away if FF is a mostly already skilled players. When I first started playing TFC, I was a pure noob just sniping on random pubs, but one day when I had played in a actual clan server that was in PG, Proving Grounds, league way back when, and I saw people rocket jumping and skimming off the ground and jumping fast as a mofo with grace, it honestly only made me want to play more. I wanted badly to be as good as those I saw playing in the server and I havent stopped playing TFC to this day.

I guess what Im really trying to say is, I dont know why everyone says new players will be scared away by the "greatness" of the majority who play. Arent their still gamers who see things like competitiveness and skill level as something they can strive towards? Or are all new gamers now just wanting a CS style, not bashing CS, well I guess I am, shoot-em up click and point kind of game?

You are 100% right there are players who see skill and competitiveness, they also see quick downloads to gain that skill lol they call them hackers.

but really im in same shoes as you, I just played cause the game was "fun" I made a few quick friends and it kept me on everynight until I got into clanning I think I rather see the bitches run who are scared of some "learning" rather than them stay and cry its to hard so leagues can rape the rules some more.

I'm sorry but how can a company that made a game that you've been playing for over 5 years "blow donkey dick"? Not to mention the fact that the Half-Life series ranks up with the best games of all time. That sure sounds like a company that sucks!

People are bitter towards Valve because Valve pretty much dropped any support for TFC long ago. I find some of the anti-Valve comments rather amusing and on some level even ironic, but what you going to do. This is indeed a fickle community.

The time frame valve puts on stuff then didn't deliver. The way they can afford to scrap a project and not even look at the community that supports them, that is how I can say they suck donkey dick. Just cause I played a game on and off for 7 yrs doesn't mean I have to kiss ass or up to the company who made it why should I? I gave my thanks by buying the game and also putting down each year they said HL2 was coming another 50 dollers for a reserved copy that I never saw my money get refunded.

How many of you got a reserved copy years ago but never saw that money again ?

I apreciate valve providing awesome games but they still suck donkey dick for screwing us over time and time again on "supply and demand"

Direhit

And if you were running a multi-million dollar corporation you wouldn't do the same? You wouldn't provide to those where the demand is greatest? Feel free to answer "No" to this, but if you do you are only kidding yourself.

As for the other stuff with the reserved copies, while I have personally never heard of that happening with Valve, I have no doubt that it happens and I have no doubt that many other companies like Valve make those kinds of mistakes as well.

OhGr
August 23rd, 2006, 05:16 PM
this is something that wasn't even a point to argue im sorry if I said valve sucks donkey dick and it got ppl upset, but its fact over all they do what they want cause they can without CONCERN to the gamers. If the arguement that they make lots of money so they need to move to other projects to keep money incoming and move on etc.. comes up then it's only backing why they suck dick.

read between the lines with a bias mind and you will understand what I mean. I do know what your saying and I understand but this isn't gonna be worth the debate and really does it matter? were gonna get 2 games fuck it lets just be friends and frag.

There are people (old geezers and broads server) who can't stand when people are good at the game. But most people are like me, and the first time they saw a conc jump, rocket jump, ramp slide, bunny hop, etc, got excited and wanted to learn to do it too.

So Valve is terrible just because they decided to completely scrap their original idea for TF2 and start over? They're a shitty company because you stupidly got ripped off trying to reserve a game from some store and they didn't honor it? Valve never offered any reserve copies of HL2 until it was ready to be preloaded anyway.

Your hate is nothing but seething nerd rage at a company not bending over for their fans and instead, GASP, running their business to make money!

agreed, hl2's biggest delay was due to faggot hackers leaking it. Why would Valve kiss our asses if people do shit like that to them?
