My buddy gave me his old laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-NVR23) and I believe the harddrive is dying on it. Is it worth it to buy a new harddrive and install it on to the machine? Does anyone know if there is a website that lists laptop and their respective compatiable harddrives?

I'm sorry if my grammer or what not isn't so good, just got of work. Sucks working 2am-10am.

Usually they aren't hard at all. You just unscrew a few screws, pull it out, and slide the new one in.

So there isn't really any compatibility issues involved with installing a new harddrive on to a laptop?

Well yea, there are compatibility issues, but the process of installing one is easy. Every manufacture makes their laptops different sizes and arranges the internal components differently. So, you'll basically need to buy a hard that is almost (ie storage capacity doesn't matter so much) exactly like the one you have now.

Laptop hard drives are generally all the same size, 2.5" (unless it is some kind of ultramobile type computer, in which case it may be a 1.8" drive, but these are rare in laptops).

Just make sure you get the same interface on the drive and you should be fine.

This thread should be posted in the Tech Center, as someone else mentioned.
