Well i know we have a "Tech" section but no one reads that too much so I figured I would post it here to get as much advise as possible.

Right now im in the market for a new monitor. Right now i have a 24" DIGIview monitor. Its HUGE. thats why im in the market for a new monitor. Something that is a flat panel, sleek, and around the same size (19"-24"+).

Right now my price range is pretty slim. I know in getting a new, good monitor you'll probably need to spend. But if someone could shoot out some places with great deals, or if you know of a place that has great prices feel free to shoot those out.

*ive been looking on neweggs "Todays Deals" page on the front page and noticed they have a few monitors there for around or under 300.
But in looking for a monitor I havent the slightest clue what to look for. Maybe you guys in the general section can help?
Thx!

I just bought this for the exact same reason:

Good price for a widescreen 19", and I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I've been doing a ton of research on lcd's lately because I'm looking for parts for my new comp. 19" is the sweet spot for price. A couple of the best deals I've been looking at lately:

I've heard of 8ms monitors getting a tiny bit of ghosting when you play scout. Not many reviews will mention ghosting on an 8ms monitor though because not many games get as fast as scouting in tfc. All 3 of those monitors are getting great reviews though, and any of them should be good for gaming. Also note that these are all widescreens, so if you're looking to have a regular model there are very similar models by the same companies that are also getting great reviews. Rasp, can you let me know how that monitor turns out? As it stands right now, the Hanns-G is my top pick because of the amazing stats on paper and number of positive reviews.

Sure thing. I'll let you know Monday evening after I have some time to play around with it.

Yeah, that Hanns-G one looks amazing so far, if it were in stores (ie best buy, frye's, etc.) I probably would have noticed it, and gotten it.

I'm thinking about getting the widescreen dell 20.1" because its pretty cheap and has component input for my 360.

in terms of gaming, 2ms would obviously be better then a 5.6.7ms monitor?

I would recommend you get one that does 1600x1200.

if you could tell the difference yes. I have my 12 or 16ms (can't remember) 24'' dell and notice little to no ghosting. My other one (19'' lcd 8ms) was the same way. I think you just get used to the monitors over time.

well its kinda close so far. im between the

ViewSonic VX922 (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824116375)

or the

Hanns·G HW-191DPB (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824254005)

That's because one is widescreen and the other isn't.
Vr, lower response time is better for gaming yes. The only thing missing from that 2ms monitor is widescreen, if you're looking for it in the first place. I really doubt you'll get any ghosting with an 5ms response time. I've heard nothing but good things about both of those monitors though, so you can't go wrong.

ig ot my 19inch 25ms lcd, when i first played tfc on it, the ghosting was horrible, but now i dont notice anything.

you get used to it, no matter how bad the ghosting is.

If you can afford the samsung 204b (20", 1600x1200, 5ms), you won't be dissapointed. I have 2 of them at work and bought one for home because they were so good. Awesome for gaming too. Haven't seen any bluring EVER.

It's on newegg right now for 347 + 60 $ MIR.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001226

I just picked up the Hanns that rasp linked (newegg's price at Office Depot, go figure) and it's an amazing monitor. The only negative thing I've seen is the tendency for the strong backlight to shine through the darkest areas of the screen, which can be slightly odd at first during some games, i.e. FEAR.

Not sure if this is to pricey for you.

anyways that monitor rapes.

the 204b is well built all around. the base is heavy so it won't slide around on your desk, but it adjusts easily - swivels / up and down / and the screen even rotates a full 90 degress if you want 1200x1600 instead of 1600x1200 for some reason.

My eyes are still adjusting to the size of the widescreen LCD. I've been on my pos 17" Dell CRT for years and years so this is quite a big change for me. Unbelievable monitor and it seems to have improved my online gaming abilities because now I can fucking see.

And they have competent support.

I'm also getting a new monitor this week - the Samsung 205BW (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001081). That link is just for reference and pictures. If you're interested, do this. Print out this ad (http://www.officemax.com/max/solutions/product/prodBlock.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&prodBlockOID=1611477377&expansionOID=-536879891). It's on sale for $290 at office max without mail in rebates. Take the ad to CompUSA. They have it on sale for $350 with $80 in mail in rebates (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=srch1&Ntt=205bw&N=0&Dx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&D=205bw&Ntk=All&product_code=340150). They will price match the office max price, and then you do the rebates and get the monitor for $210. I'm pretty sure that deal cannot be beat. However, be aware that CompUSA does price matching by giving you a gift card of the difference. So only do it if you think you can manage spending $60 in the store. Just as was mentioned, a lot of people mentioned elsewhere that widescreen isn't worth it on a 19" due to the 1440x900. The 205BW is a 20" widescreen that does 1680x1050 with 6ms response time and has a multifunction stand like the 204B.
