View Full Version : New Logitech Mouse Illegal?

Well, I was at bestbuy today and I just happened to see the new line of logitech mice there. The main "feature" of this line is their new scroll wheel design. Basically, at least on the notebook mouse model, the damn thing has inertia! You give it a push and it will spin for days. So I imagine that "bind mwheeldown +jump" with this mouse will be just as effective as _special was for bhopping up ramps. Is using this mouse for bhopping going to be illegal?

I doubt it will work successfully. In tfc if you continue to hit +jump then it will be impossible to strafe. In turn giving you more of a ice skating feel than bhopping. Think bunnyhopping across the ice bridge in vidars/vidar2.

It's the +jump;wait scripts that do that... with just +jump bound to mwheeldown you would have no problem strafing.

That will be the day, when etana somehow is able to check what kind of mouse you're using....
Why even make this a subject of concern considering there is no possible way to stop people from using a piece of hardware. That’s like banning people with a better video card/system because the game might run smoother, therefore giving them a slight advantage. Other than the fact that this game is on its way out, even the thought of regulating what people choose to buy hardware wise is foolish.
Give it up br0

I think that I speak for everybody else when I say that from now on, demo pulling AND taking a picture of your desktop while you're playing has to become mandatory.

The Search, Document quick-flip and Zoom features are extra buttons that don't do anything for you in TFC. SmartShift technology doesn't help you either.
Plus I don't trust wireless no matter how good they say it is. Plus having to deal with batteries = lose. The $79 one would be the better value for a gamer but that's still too much compared to other mice on the market IMO. These are nice innovations from Logitech but more geared to regular users and not gamers.

As many people have pointed out, it would be absurd to "ban a mouse" from leagues, yet those same people would probably all agree that a piece of software that does the same thing should be illegal - ie, doing something like configuring your mouse drivers to spam space bar on a mouse button press. But really, what is the difference between buying a $100 dollar mouse or doing something like this which makes one legal and another illegal? What stance are the leagues going to take on this? As long as you spend more than $50 bucks, it's legit?
This has been a completely unaddressed issue from the day they banned _special.

This kind of thing has been inherent in the TFC system since the beginning. Better systems get better performance, in the early days cerrtain vid cards would allow users to see thru water clearly instead of with the "fog effect". Hardware is something that can't be controlled, and therefore remains unregulated. Until the Logitech 8000 has a built-in wireframe hack, I really see it as a non-issue.
One thing to consider, whether you're using legal hardware or not, it's the effect itself that remains a bannable offense. You don't have to enable a wallhack to wallhack(Think Shark and his 3rd person gun), but if you are disputed and your play displays properties of banned action, you're probably gonna be flushed down the shitter regardless.

I can say with certainty that UGC will not ban a fucking mouse. How could you ever enforce a rule like that.
The very fact that there have been other mice out there that do similar things that emulate _special (MX500, MX510) have been discussed in this very forum should have given you indication to the league's stance on hardware compliance (there is none).
I would love to see a review on this mouse to see if it does in fact work as stated. Someone go out and buy it (WF) and tell us all if it does work. Maybe UGC will ban one person for using this HACKER mouse :p

i haven't played in a very long time (before special was banned).
don't servers run a program to detect other players from using special? If so, then it is possible to easily tell what is going on. blah blah balh

not only that shady, but my game would "wallhack" on my PII 233 with onboard graphics due to it's shittiness. If I sniped from one side of well I would at times see the models through the other walls. It's best to not worry about this sort of stuff.

I beleive it is a pentium 2 433mhz with a onboard ATI rage3d i think it is that glitches as a wallhack occasionally in software graphics mode. The older generations of low end video cards did that in software and opengl from what i remember.

that bug only happened with opengl in 320x240 from what I remember. 320x240 was killed sometime mid2000. only certain areas of certain maps could I see outlines.

Not quite true. OpenGL gives the fog effect, if you run in software mode you see clear as day in water! But I suppose the GFX cards that didn't have openGL gave you the clear advantage in water....

there are a few other well known methods of obtaining the same function as _special and your new logitch disaster. having another joystick with the auto function doesn't surpise me one bit. the same software that enables this mouse does the same as what is already availible for us to use. google autohotkey...

it was in one setting that the fog was removed that allowed a sniper to shoot an hwguy if he was sitting at the end of the pipe.

hey ch, doens't yours still do that!?!?My Geforce2 still does that. Especially when you look in the distance. If the map goes too far, then it will not show up on my screen. But when I stand still then move a little I can see through the walls. It's mainly useful when I play sniper.
