View Full Version : Medic Completely Changed

GI: Are most of the classes going to retain the same feature set they had in Team Fortress Classic?
Lombardi: Again, the medic is completely overhauled, and some of them are very faithful. That’s true both in terms of offensive and defensive arsenal as well. In some cases we really saw some opportunities to really leverage the Source engine and to change stuff up. You saw a little bit of that there in the demo with some of his new capabilities, some of the ways he’s able to better interact using that technology. The medic was something that Robin Walker, who’s the co-creator of Team Fortress as you know, was always a class that he frustrated with and felt like the way it had been executed on wasn’t what he and John really had in their brains. So they’ve taken a lot of time on that to change that up, and as you’ve probably noticed that’s one surprised that we’re keeping for later to reveal what that’s going to be about.

I'm concerned for medic. Hopefully they don't totally nerf him.

the pczone article said he no longer spreads infection but makes everyone around him more powerful/helps resupply them (just by being in the vicinity).

good.
the infection spreading is stupid anyway. the spreading part specifically. infection as a tool is pretty cool

rofl, that would bring turtling to a whole new dimension.
Hey medics, go stand near the front door HW!

Why do you think like this? All it would do is add a completely new dimension to the game. Who says medics have to run offense? Isn't a real medic's role supposed to be support anyway?

Um, actually.... Medics used to be a VERY good defensive class. Yes, medics.
To be honest, even now in TFC, have you ever tried to defend against a medic? Not that easy...
If he can help boost abilities, that would be cool, perhaps offense as a whole could actually be over powered... Four O medics? Oie.

I rape the d medic, and i remember bp used to do it too in inferno.
Only class that cant do a whole lot ctf wise is a d scout, in adl it has its uses.
(defusing detpacks,uncoverspies,harass flagcarrier)
Def medic = scouts' worse nightmare, can chase them while double shottying them in the back.

Exactly Jiymd. They also can return to their positions very quickly... Not to mention, the conc can be very usefull to really mess someone up.

D medic is worse than the regular D clases at a choke point..but better as that chasing 6th 7th and 8th defender :)

well if you run a clan in TF2, you can use your D med and see what happens

just because theyll be able to play D doesnt mean they cant play O, it would be cool to have classes be effective on both o and d. i know it would be a totally different game, but thats fine with me. as long as its not another world war 2 realism game ill probably play it.

Maybe toning the medic down a bit makes way for a more viable offensive spy and/or pyro? hmm

I agree that medic should be given more of a support role, though. When my bro was watching me play, he was wondering why all the medic does is conc around and nade the enemy to hell.
And seriously, D medic is pretty useless. If you need a fast guy who can buff teammates and shotgun whore, use an engie.

Yeah right, i remember people used to run 2 d medics on the front door of well. That was soo ridiculous to play against.

Here's the thing, he isn't useful on every map. More useful on something like well, where you HAVE TO dm to get to the flag.

I bet teamates near his slowly get ammo and heal, like the medics natural healing.
I just wonder if it stacks if two meds are near each other. med's healing plus teammate healing.
Maybe scouts will give teammates a speed boost also. :D

Since the game was released, and they even did it before that in the beta! (and probably the alpha version before that!)

See, all these great ideas are going to be implimented to make the medic more versatile.. unless and until people realize that he works better on offense because he's faster and has concs, in which case valves wonderful dreams will fall to the floor when people actually become competitive at this game.
People made medic offense because hes fast, can conc, and has firepower... not because he can fucking heal or infect. Who the hell is gonna play defense medic and run around healing their vicinity? No one who is competitive in the least bit.
TF2 sounds like a really cute funny clusterfuck game.

It would be good if scout was used more for offense, since that is his obvious job. Although scouts are used on some maps its certainly underused in TFC.

Well having an O medic that can heal those around u and resupply; maybe u can heal ur O buddies that just got shot etc. use the "team"play to the advantage.
