I was browsing external harddrives at newegg.com and i found a few for around $100 that were 250 gb.. but the user reports were frightening to say the least. i want one that i can back up all my music/movies/videos to that has a very small (or none at all, preferably) chance of dying on me, any recommendations and if possible any (common) stores that would sell them?

I know you need USB ports on your mobo (which i have) to use one, but besides that i dont know much about them. can i just plug it in whenever and cut files from the C: drive to it?

I have a 250 gig external WD that has worked great for a few months now. I use it for my automotive tuning software so I can use it at the shop and at home.

It's like a flash drive - I plug it into my USB 2.0 port and Windows finds it and displays it in the My Computer section under drives, then I just drag and drop, open things, whatever.

Get one that has good reviews on Newegg; the review on there tend to be pretty accurate. You get what you pay for, and with harddrives, I wouldn't want to take a chance at buying shit.
