I am not sure how many of you have seen the 13 episode series of Cosmos narrated and directed by Carl Sagan. I found all the episodes on google video and felt like sharing them with this forum. The series is very enlightening and is probably the best done video on the cosmos. The videos are almost a religious exploration of our universe and they will get you thinking. I just felt like this is a good break from the normal political or religious debate that always goes on in here. If you haven't seen any of this series, I highly suggest watching some of these when you have the time. Each are about an hour long.

Cosmos 13 part series (http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=cosmos+sagan+duration%3Along&page=1&so=0) (Hopefully you can ignore the spanish subtitles)

Here is a real short clip from one of the videos that should be translated into every human language for the world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuJ3Tjj40P8

I watched these first run, and agree that they are interesting and worthwhile.

Another great series that ran on PBS almost in conjunction with "Cosmos" original run was a series called "Connections", wherein a chatty british fellow proffessor would take a thing from history (e.g. the use of the longbow at Hastings) and show how it changed man's sociological evolution and swayed historical events, right up to modern times.

The show on the evolution of heating/cooling was kick-ass.

I was 12 when this series first ran and it had a big effect on me. It has influenced how I've looked at the world for my whole life.

I've maintained for 25 years that Cosmos remains perhaps the highest point in the entire history of the medium of television.

It's a sincere and heartfelt celebration of the wonderful beauty of the universe, the human ability and desire to perceive it, and a very worthy plea for us to walk the path of understanding instead of violence and ignorance.

^^^^^^

the truth.. best series for tv ever.. especially since they have 'updated' the series a bit.. good move.. absolutely loved this .. even today. I parked my kids in front of the tv and we watched this together. i can't say enough about the series.

too bad about sagan though, a very worthy man who died way before his time. we could use his insight and experience now to tell people in our government where things are going right and wrong, in regards to space exploration, nasa, budgeting, etc.. a soul whose light went out way too early.. sniff sniff..
