View Full Version : Computer keeps restarting?

I just upgraded my motherboard, cpu, ram, and got a new harddrive.

Here are the specs from my IRC script:

OS: Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2 (5.1 - 2600) | Connection: Cable | CPU: 2-AMD , 1999MHz (0% Load) | RAM 288/991MB (29.06%) | Graphics Card: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 Series | Resolution: 1024x768 32bit 60Hz | Last restart: 15*Minutes 42*Seconds | Record uptime: 12*Hours 59*Minutes 50*Seconds.

Problem:
It seems like whenever I try to do something the computer automatically restarts itself. When I leave it sitting alone and don't touch it then it's fine. Only when I start up programs. I tried one of those "memtest" things my friend told me to do and it found a shitload of errors.

I have already returned the motherboard once and a good friend of mine who is was a computer tech at compusa (he is the one who put it together) took it apart twice and rebuilt it blah blah.

Anyways, sometimes firefox stops loading and other weird stuff happens. I'm using 2 HD's 1 for windows and 1 for all of my crap.

What is the problem? I feel like it's the ram, should I go return it and try again?

Thanks in advance!

did he set up BIOS? if you are getting a lot of errors in memtest, then you should manually set up the ram timings (if you can). what type of mobo is it? what kind of psu? do you have all windows patches/updates?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor / ECS Motherboard.

He said he setup all of the BIO's correctly, twice. He suggests that I exchange my ram and see if it works correctly. It's a CORSAIR 1GB DDR.
