So I moved to Austin, and luckily my computer made it through the check pretty well. No noticable problems. After 3 weeks, Time Warner finally comes to install the cable, and my internet just wont work. They said its pinging fine, so its on my computers end. I then realized that my tcp/ip protocol drivers arent installed. When I go to install them, it says the drivers can not be found. I reformatted and reinstalled windows, and it still cant find the drivers. I figured theyd be included with windows, so I'm a little bothered. I have no idea what to do now, and I'd really like internet at my house :[. WinXP home if thats useful information. Please help me :(

tcp/ip drivers? I assume you mean your network card? What network card do you have? Is it onboard (built into the motherboard?) if so then there should be drivers available on the motherboard's driver cd. If it is an OEM PC they will either be on a cd that came with the computer or on the manufacturer's website (since you can post I assume you can use a flash drive or something to get the files home to update your network card drivers).

i'm not sure what brand my network card is. I think its linksys but I have to check. I also have onboard, but i dont know what motherboard is in the crappy gateway I have. So obviously the problem exists in the drivers for the network card?

If you're merely talking about the TCP/IP protocol, then that's simple to fix, no need to reinstall drivers. Go to Control Panel, then Network Connections, then right click on your Local Area Connection (or whatever connection is set up for your nic) and go to Properties. Then click that little "Install" button, and just go through the wizard choosing the protocol and then Windows TCP/IP and it will add it in for you.

I would do the onboard one. if you know the model of your computer you should be able to get drivers directly from gateway for the onboard network card.
