Alright, this just happened today. I always leave my usb cables plugged into my pc and I went to hook up my iPod today and I recieved that message that is posted in the title. I tried uninstallingd/reinstalling the iPod update and it didn't seem to work. The weird thing is, my other USB drives are working perfectly fine. I switched the USB slots around and they all seemed to work fine except the iPod one.

Is it possible that my cable is bad or do you think my iPod USB is bad? I haven't dropped my iPod or anything since the last time I charged it so I'm a bit confused as to what could be the problem.

Other people on the apple forums and another forum I go to seem to be having this same problem.

it happened after an update?

nope, I rarely use itunes so it's never open for me to update. I did update after the problem started though to see if that would fix it even though I was pretty sure it wouldn't since this seems to be a windows error. Nothing changed with my USB drivers as far as I know.

Power down your computer, unplug your power from your power supply in the back of your computer. Let it sit for about 30 seconds. Plug it back in, retry. Windows sp2 has issues with some mother boards and recognizing a few usb devices (I assume it's not just your ipod that's doing it).

Nope, it was just the ipod USB cable. My other devices worked fine.

I went to the apple store today, hoping my ipod was screwing up so I could get an awesome new free one. Turned out it was my USB cable that was causing the problem. They didn't even give me a free one, they made me pay 20 bucks for it. :(
