View Full Version : This is strike three for SONY ... I'm no longer gonna get a PS3

1) Price tag = wtf! - I can buy a PC for less!
2) No immersion/rumble in the joysticks? - Get used to flashing damage indicators. :/
3) Going entirely online in future. No more discs! - Because downloading 4 gigs is more fun!

Thoughts?

I don't so much mind downloading games. I wish more games were distributed that way.

What I do mind are the first 2 points, the first one more so than the second one. The PS3 is going to have to be fricken amazing for me to consider it right now at a $600 price point. Maybe if the price drops a ton I'll pick it up at some point if there are some good games for it.

well, the reason why im not too worried about the ps3, or any of the other next gen systems (360 and wii), is cause of sony's claim of what it's going to do with the ps2.

Since they say they're going to continue the ps2 for a few years (like they did the ps1 when the ps2 came out)I dont specifically feel compelled to get a new system till prices start dropping.

Not even counting new games, there are plenty of existing ps2 games I've never played that are supposed to be pretty good. I'll be fine for a while.

I thought sony dropped the ps3 price.

they havn't even released it yet

gamespot's pre-orders, which opened today... are now closed
$100 cost of the pre-purchase pre-order for a ps3 on launch day
and in addition to all of that, each gamespot retail location will get as MANY as 8 total ps3's... wow as many as 8

thats pathetic really. as for releasing games exclusively online. that will become true, valve was among the first to release their games for pre-downloadable purchase. sony will end up doing the same eventually.

Janus
October 10th, 2006, 08:39 PM
but seeing how Valve is a developing company and not a publishing company (ie Vivendi) it is a different topic. Just how Sony is a publishing company and (afaik) less of a developing company. I bet that it won't be exclusively online for quite some time, if ever.

the rumble feature I can do without.

The price tag is my only problem with it. The system could cost $400 if it wasn't for the damn blue ray player.

JenovaProjekt
October 10th, 2006, 09:52 PM
yeah teh blu ray is what is making the damn thing so expensive, if its as good as teh blu ray players out now 600 is actually a good price, cause so far the lowest ive seen for a blu ray player(bb and cc ads) is $999

it is cheap if you just consider it a blu-ray dvd player and forget the fact it plays video games

but lets be real human beings and less e-competetive nerds for a second,

its not as fun as the wii and 3x as much

How many of you are sick of hearing that the Wii is only going to be fun until the "novelty" of the new controls wears off? I have friends that are turned completely off by the fact that the Wii hardware is much more advanced than the GC. I tell them if graphics make you happy, why do you have a ps2 instead of a GC? GC has better graphics. Also, the "novelty" of paying $350 less than a ps3 seems like a hell of a lot of fun to me. Shit, you can buy 2 wiis and two games for the price of a ps3.

That being said, I still like the psx and ps2, and will probably get a ps3 in a couple of years if the games prove to be cool and the price drops.

Course the Wii + 360 = a little more than a PS3.

yeah ps3 is going to be fully backwards compatible with ps2 and ps1, controllers, games blah blah. its gonna be like 499 for a 20gig and 599 for a 60gig i think. it will play blu ray, super audio (lol) and the regular as always dvds, cds, and games. FREE ONLINE and also region free so it basically pays itself off eventually if you compare it to a 360. but still i wouldnt touch a launch ps3 with a 10 foot stick cause im sure it will be buggy as hell. if you get one sell it for double on ebay and have it pay for itself that way hah. just a few things ive heard from the rep from sony. and im not sure if all of this has been said because i didnt want to read through the shiza. just informing from what ive heard :) gl getting one if youre going for it. ill stick with a wii for now

addendum to my above post:

One of my friends, a Sony Fanboy that waited in line 8 hours to put in a reservation for a ps3 (that he probably won't get with the first shipment) actually said this:

Him: Dude, Zelda for the Wii is gonna be motion control only. Yet another reason I will never buy a Wii. You think you can run around swinging swords for a 70+ hours rpg?

My reply: Goddamn dude, exactly how fat and lazy are you? I seriously doubt nintendo made the motion sensors so unresponsive that you have to run around your living room cutting backflips and making fully-extended slashes and stabs . A flick of the wrist will do it, I guarantee you.

His response: Yeh but what about all the extra items like the boomerang and other classic weapons? You'll have to use the same controls for that too.

Me: Then plug that goddamn thing into the GC-style controller and play it that way. It still has motion sensing. Or just get the GC version, since you're so adamant about how the Wii is only a few steps beyond the GC in technology. Problem solved.

Him: *signed off*

Nobody wins a common sense argument with Chilla

I work at eb games and we get around 20-30 calls a day about ps3 reservations. I usually tell people to hold off or get a 360 since ps3 wont be any better (price or games wise). Last week we were told that each store in our district could reserve a maximum of 8 systems and that we were not to tell customers but instead call our regular trust-worthy customers and allow them to pre-order the system. Some how the info got leaked because the next morning we had a line of about 40 people outside the store :/ . They were willing to pay 100 dollars down too.

Oh and after we let the last guy pre-order one this irrate lady came running up yelling at us about how she needs one for her son. I told her I was going to have to call the cops if she didnt leave rofl. Video games bring out the kid (dumbass) in some people.

Yea everyone pre ordered theirs, just to put them on ebay i guess its smart but the die hard gamers are screwed. i went on to ebay and people are spending $1,699 just for the recipt and trust the person to send it to them when they pick it up. So people that are somehow getting more than one pre order are making bank. spend 100 bucks to order, sale it for 1699 stash away 500 to pick it up and bang 1000 just like that. i missed out.

One of my friends told me that PS3 games are going to have some technology on them where a game is registered to a system and the game cannot be used on any other system, thus it would eliminate bootlegging, renting, borrowing, reselling and trading.

If their blu-ray DVD player is as amazing as the ps2s DVD player it's not worth it at all. Every DVD I own, half way through it on the ps2 it skips and skips and skips until I restart it.

Sony's Blu-Ray chips for quite a while (up until early september...and thats just the last time I heard anything about it so who knows if they've even fixed it completely yet) had a 20% success rate.

Don't buy a PS3 just because its a Blu-Ray player.

GhOsT
October 19th, 2006, 02:31 PM
Well, apparently blu-ray was put in the PS3 since the games need the space that blu-ray provides. Which means the blu-ray player actually working is kinda integral to the unit working I guess.

There is a price cut in effect in Japan. That plus the "shortage" = hyped beyond Dakitana! if that was possible.

It has nothing to do with FFVII so you can all relax.
